Dropping FPS
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:28:37 PM »
I have a Stag 15 DMR that is shooting a little hot

Its currently shooting 515-530 and i have a 150 spring in it.(semi)

I want it to be averaging 500fps but i don't want to have to replace the spring, so does anyone have a suggestion for dropping the FPS without having to replace the spring or do something drastic

True i thought about using a mouse pad to limit the piston or something along those lines that someone had mentioned to me. I don't want to drop it that much, and i feel that by dropping a lower spring it would drop the FPS too much

They're right. The only other way is ruining your air seals... but that is inconsistent. Plus their is no way of knowing how much velocity you will lose but creating a leak. Reducing the volume of your cylinder may work but it's hard to say. I've never tried it but if you have an old mouse pad and some extra coin for a handful of bolt from the hard ware store we can try it. Your best bet is to change the spring. Sorry dude.

In the time it took to make this thread and read the replies - you could have changed the spring already probably.

Go down to an SP130 or something and be happy.

It's not like you would be able to sense the difference between say, 460 and 500 anyway. It's all fast.

normal wear and tear lowers the FPS, as you play and play and play you will see the FPS eventually drop a bit... but not in the timespan and on the level you are looking to achieve

What about a muzzle Reducer?

Not allowed at a lot of OPs and they aren't consistant in their reduction.

They're also like, $40.

and, you could take that $40, spend 10 on a spring and the other 30 at gearbox for the installation if you really dont want to fiddle with your gearbox.

bam, problem solved....

No, they are not a long term or even a weekend solution to the output of your gun. We're just going to have to change your spring out for a different one. Get the spring and ill change it my self. Tj has the torx i need to get into the gearbox.

it's honestly better to be a little under then to be that asshole that chronos too high at a game... or worse the asshole that knows it's shooting hot and plays anyways. if you dont want to change the spring you could fuck it up and cut some off it to tune the fps. but your best bet is to do it right and change the spring. BTW at 500 fps,  hope you have disabled full auto.
