Handgun Choices

I am currently looking at picking up a handgun in celebration of AZ's unlicensed concealed carry law that just got passed. I am looking for something that is easily concealed, along the lines of the Ruger LCP, but I am a fan of a full sized handgun for hip carry during hiking camping and the like.

Right now I am considering

1) Springfield Armory 1911 (full sized single stack with fixed sights)
2) Ruger LCP just for a pocket carry small handgun
3) FN Hi Power because I like the gun caliber over the 1911 while having similar controls and handling

I am trying to avoid Glocks because they feel a little too blocky in my hands, and I prefer a single stack magazine but that is something I can work around.

What is everyone's CCW of choice?

I carry an Beretta 92FS openly and I like it. The concealed carry law doesn't go into effect until 91 days after it is passed, you still have about 2 1/2 months to go. You will also still have to have a CCW to go into restaurants that serve alcohol.

I am stationed in CA right now so I am not in a big hurry to start carrying anyway. I am curious on your Beretta, do you carry condition 1? (round in chamber, safety on, hammer down, magazine inserted) or do you carry condition 3? (chamber empty, safety on, magazine inserted) I don't dislike the m9, it's what I qualify on, but it isn't my favorite at all, and I also think that open carry puts yourself in some bad places politically.

That is a good question. I'm curious my self what condition people tend to carry their firearm.

I'm quite happy with my Taurus Millennium Pro .45 (other than the sights) and my mom likes hers as well (9mm in her case, same frame and dimensions).  Everybody I've had handle it has like it.

Condition 1.

Oh the things you hear when open carrying. I've been told that I can't be a christian because I carry gun. That I am instigating a fight. That keeping it a holster is considered Concealed Carry.

It's the General Effective Date, which is 90 days from the end of legislative session.
Which should be the 28th. But yeah, right at the end of July.

Hey thanks for the responses you guys, and while I shake my head at you Glock shooters out there I do appreciate your input.

Satalite also an interesting note in regards to a holster making your gun "concealed", AZ law says that having your gun tucked into your waistband is open carry, as long as the grip can be seen.  

TheBoy998 I have an issue with carrying in condition 1 for a lot of weapons, because of the safety problems inherent. I don't like leaving a hammer cocked, because even though I know it is physically impossible (or more rather improbable) for something to break causing your hammer to fall forward, hitting your firing pin etc. I know rationally it won't happen, but if I can avoid it I am going to. That said I am not sure if carrying with the hammer down is any better either. Really that all depends on the gun, in a 1911 I won't carry hammer down, in a M9 due to the safeties I won't carry locked and cocked.

I use a Kydex holster that doesn't sit in the waist band but on the out side.

i recommend the fn 57 its a bit pricey but if your using it for self defense its a good gun they are not getting back up
