You can get them new for about $350 depending on which slide you want.  As far as the grip goes, unless the only pistols you've shot are single stack 1911's, it's not all that abnormal.  I mean unless you have the the hands of a 8 year old, you should be fine.  Another member on here has the Taurus 24/7 Compact which is effectively the same gun (side by side, you can hardly tell them apart) with a few additional features that you may or may not want.  The decocker on the 24/7 is nice but the "textured" grip is just stupid.  Taurus makes mag spacers for the 9mm and .40 to fill the gap when using the mags from the full size 24/7 in the compact 24/7 and PT145 but for whatever reason doesn't make them for the .45.  I'm working on trying to get some made for mine.

Do NOT buy a used one as the original model (4+ years ago) had issues with shearing the hammer pin.  But I've had this PT145 for about 6 months, my mom has had a PT111 (the 9mm version) for about a year and I've got two friends who have both had theirs for a couple of years.

I am stationed in CA right now so I am not in a big hurry to start carrying anyway. I am curious on your Beretta, do you carry condition 1? (round in chamber, safety on, hammer down, magazine inserted) or do you carry condition 3? (chamber empty, safety on, magazine inserted) I don't dislike the m9, it's what I qualify on, but it isn't my favorite at all, and I also think that open carry puts yourself in some bad places politically.

Condition 1.

Oh the things you hear when open carrying. I've been told that I can't be a christian because I carry gun. That I am instigating a fight. That keeping it a holster is considered Concealed Carry.

And My Favorite "Is That Gun Real?"

I Love the Christian thing that has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. People Just dont understand I guess, If God has given us this Amazing tool to defend ourselves why would we not use It?

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference, they deserve a place of honor with all that\'s good.

And Vince, I am asking because I know how many people on this forum carry. To be honest I think I would get a better answer here then if I went to a gun store or even a strictly gun forum.

I like when people say 'to be honest'. It makes me feel like they are normally dishonest and this unabated honesty is a step out of their comfort zone.

I think if you think you're going to get good gun advice from this forum, and you're getting answers that include firearms that shoot a 5.7mm round for personal defense, you're getting what you deserve.

What happens when a shot you fire from your 5.7mm handgun overpenetrates and kills somebody else?

You are such a bastion of happiness and positivity Vince. Really I think that overpenetration is just as likely with a JHP .45 or 9mm as it is with the Five Seven shooting anything BUT the military/LE only armor piercing rounds. Those are a totally different subject altogether.

In my honest opinion the actual round itself matters more for (over)penetration then the caliber. Also I want to point out that having a weapon that can penetrate cover is not a bad idea at all. How many of us hike, camp, off road and the like. What happens if you have to take a shot at someone taking cover behind something like a car engine? Penetration does have a place in considering weapon and the round you will be carrying.
Well, like vince said, the 5.7mm was designed to primarily penetrate body armor. The one round literally has two slugs in it. the outer slug penetrates the armor and the inner continues into the body. Personally, I'd go with the S&W .40 cal round, you'll be able to carry more than that of a .45 ACP but will have more of a punch than of a 9mm Para.

Ummm, no.  Why don't we let the people who own one talk about it's supposed over penetration.

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

Hold it when its wet and slimy and you will appreciate it...I really like my PT24/7C .40.  It is an outstanding carry gun and I have had absolutely no problems with it.  It has and is serving me well..
