« on: May 12, 2010, 08:52:50 PM »
I have a Classic Army M14 and i want to put a M120 spring into it. I was wondering what stuff i need to put the spring in or is it ok by itself.

It's kind of hard to understand what you are asking making it hard to answer a technical question like this.

I'm going to assume you are asking if they're are any parts that need to be installed with the new spring. In which case I would personally say you must re shim your gearbox. I re shim gearboxes every time I open them. Assuming they're no broken parts you should be fine.

Have you every taken a gearbox apart?

Okay, Just make sure you shim the gearbox properly. The new spring will put more strain on the gears so a properly shimmed gearbox will save you the hassle of replacing a piston after you field the gun once or twice.

Have you taken any gearboxes apart?

Spring guide should be replaced at a minimum.  You will need a V3 Gearbox's spring guide, one with Bearings, and metal preferred.

That would be the "At a minimum" replacements...

Personally, I'd just assume you take the air nozzle (AUG), Cylinder head (G&G Proprietary, ASGI has replacements with new piston and piston head), piston and piston head and replace them too while you are in there.   Depending on how crappy your CA motor is, maybe one of those too (Short motor).  Needless to say, neither of my two CA M14's would pull a Guarder SP120 reliably on the stock motor and a large 8.4v 3500 mAh NiMH.  It's easy to spend other people's money though.  Is it a requirement to replace those?  No, but I would just to ensure maximum performance...

If you have never cracked open a gearbox and the gun is relatively new, leave it alone. Every time you open your gearbox you run a big risk in loss of performance (air seal, parts loss, fit and function).

You may put a 120 in it but you may loose any performance you gained by loss of air seal or worse, you come back in a week with a thread about how you can't get your gun back together again.

You don't need all those upgrade parts. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

This made me chuckle.
