Fresh out of the Army after 7 years
« on: June 25, 2010, 05:06:27 PM »
I just ETS out of the Army, after 7 years and two deployments to Iraq. I ran a few airsoft scrims with some friends in Texas and had a blast. My looking to get a airsoft rile but I am debating between an Classic Army or ICS M4 AEG or a WE, KJW or KWA GBB M4. I’m really new to airsoft so any advice would be greatly appreciated on the weapon subject and also info on how and where to start.

Name: "Red"
Age: 23
Location: Phoenix - 35th Ave and Bethany - main cross streets
Team: Looking for one
Weapon: Looking for one

Experience: I spent 2 years in Iraq with the 1st Cav. doing convoy security, VIP escort, IP training, route clearance, and various other missions. I was on the force cell move team in the US Military Disciplinary Facility in Mannheim Germany, and was a road MP at Fort Hood, TX.

i like CA, just because ive heard of it a little more, but i was looking at some ICS's before i replied and the prices looked relatively the same. just pick a model from either manufacturer, and do some research. in the end, its your decision, and so its what you like best. is the GBB for your rifle or a sidearm? if its a sidearm, i would either go KWA or SOCOM GEAR has some good 1911s. i hope this helps! see you on the feild!

The GBB was for a M4 rifle. I found this great post by a moderator called "AirsoftArizona 'Newbie' airsoft guide". It helped me alot. I'm trying to but together the same set up as I had in Iraq. After all the reviews and forms I have read I think I'm probably gonna go with the ICS M4. I think im just to new to go with a GBB rifle to start with. Thanks for the advice.

Welcome to the forums Red.  Thank you for your service.  Hooah!

Don't worry too much about a team.  Just get a good gun - the ICS is a good start.  The more you play, the more you learn what suits you and your budget.  Building is a AEG like you carried is a good idea - keeps it familiar.  I hope you got to bring home a little gear -- that can get expensive too, at least for the quality products.

Keep in mind that there are bad, good, and great games.  If you can - try to make it down to the Outskirts of Grozny II game - south of Tucson, if you have a gun by then.  Quality people and a quality game.

Again -- Welcome...

it has been proven in history that for a group to survive its government must be over thrown from time to time. my fear is that this will come to our lands way to soon.

Just need to get a replica vest because I dont wanna run around with that heavy thing anymore :) Ill try and make it to that Outskirts of Grozny II game, is there anything I need to know or do to participate in the game? And do you have any advice on the best place to pick up that ICS M4?

ok. im very glad you found a solution! yea, GBB's require some knowledge to know how to grease up and what not. one more thing, batteries? does the gun come wit one or are you lookin at one? just curious! thank you for your service sir. pleasure talking to you!

Re: cdbas777 - No the ICS M4 Im looking at doesn't come with one. I was thinking about getting a Intellect 9.6v 2000mAh NiMH Nunchuck Battery. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=2772

Intellect batteries aren't that great. They are overpriced and the cells wear out permanently very quickly.
If you're looking for decent-priced, higher quality batteries, try someplace like cheapbatterypacks.com.

like he said, intellects cells wear out permanently and quickly, so if you have to get one, its good to 1: when you first get it, charge it longer than normal. for instance, if the paper says 4 hours, charge from like 6-8 hours, just so the batterie wears in to holding a longer charge and 2: when you first play with it, let it die ALL the way before charging it again. this will just make the batterie worn in to holding and using all of its charge. sorry, no suggestions from me, because i use intellects lol!

Ok, so after alot of help from the guys at Gearbox, thanks by the way, I got the same set up as I had down range. I got an ICS M4 and a KWA M9 PTP. I'm running a LBE type set up right now rather than a plate carry because I find it more practical, I also bought a vest to for CQB. I also got a M14 when I feel like playing the DM role. Now all that’s left to do is paint my M4 and get a few more parts for it and I'll be happy. I’ll put pics up of both my gear and weapons once I dig the camera out of one of these damn tuff-boxes I haven’t unpacked yet. Thank you all for your help and time, I’ll see you in the field.
