from what i heard, re-enlisting in a combat "zone" or whatever, equates to a nice big bonus..

another thing to contemplate if you're all about the money..

Thats true...  A few of my friends re-enlisted when we were poking holes in the gulf circa 2005 (I was subs).  One was an E-4 and got 55K tax free and automatic E-5, the other was an E-6 and got 70K tax free.  Both were Nuclear field.

Also if your want good $ in the military I have to promote being a Navy nuke (sub reactor operator) you'll get promoted faster and you'll get these pay bonuses (this was when I was an E-6 on my 4th year of sea time, it builds up to this amount) this is monthly in addition to regular pay, which sucks...    oh, and my best hook up was getting housing allowance in Hawaii...  over 2,000 a month for an E-6 (allowances are tax free).
~150 "nuke pay"
~250 "subpay"
~375 "seapay"
~150 "Sr. supervisor pay, if you qualify sr. watch station"
and if you go in a combat zone... hazard duty pay and all pay/bonus's are tax free.
Of course after being on a boat for 4 years you'll go to shore duty and loose most of these pays.  But if you're going to shore duty that means you re-enlisted for a pretty penny.

This info is all from 2006 time frame.

I say yes. Merely a recommendation; not an order. Go Marines!

The question is to broad..... left or right? Whats your 5 year plan? I enlist people all the time to send them to ASU. Thats my job. 9 Weeks BCT 4 weeks to 1 year AIT (time based on MOS) and then you get 11K for school and 350 a month on top of your drill pay (starts at 189 for an E-1) There is scholorships, SMP, GFRD and a ton of other things that can be added to that. None of it means shit if your not commited or it dont fit into your plan.

Pick your poison. The Military is the best and worst thing you can do. If your pussy by nature we wont make you tough we'll just make you disgruntled. If your a team player with real goals then you can go far.

However dont except a Recruiter to kiss your ass and buy you pizza. The standards are higher then ever for ALL branches. I cant enlist people with a 49 or below on the ASVAB, no moral waivers. (meaning more then 5 traffic tickets and 2 misdimeanors) and there is no such thing as wiped away, TASK, Juvi-only, its all there. FBI check hommie.

If you want a huge bonus - too late, the wars are drawing down and your elected people dont care too give us the founding.

If you want give me a call I'll set you up with the branch of your choice, you'll need to take the ASVAB, and be honest with me first. I'll give you the real deal. I've enlsted 5 AA Members in 3 years.
