Special Thanks to the PlayersI'm not sure if this should be here or in its own thread. For the sake of avoiding forum-spam, I'll post it here.
Howdy all. My name's Drew W. I was the doctor zombie in the lab coat and blue surgical gown tonight, and also got picked for zombie team leader.
I just want to say a few things about this game, and the players who fought in it.
Note: As far as a full review goes, I'm writing one up now. It should be posted in this forum in the next couple of days. This is just a little message to the playersWow. This game rocked! I'm glad I came, and I'm glad so many of you guys showed up for it, hehe. BTW, my doctor gown is torn to shi* There's a hole on the chest that's big enough to put your head through, hehe. Thanks for the full-auto fire Spec Ops. =D>
This game was
well worth it. I got similar comments from a lot of other players. This was an ambitious game. And in spite of a few hiccups here or there, I think everyone really got their money's worth at Left 4 Dead. I can't wait for the sequel.
MTT, congratulations on pulling off a very successful op. It was well worth it.
Alex, thank you for volunteering your time to recording so much of the game tonight: those vids are going to look awesome! Volunteers for the Tank Suit: that thing was a bugger in a half to move around it, especially when it's dark.
Thanks for answering the call and giving those humans a run for their money! Now, to all of the players that came out tonight. It was an absolute blast playing with you guys, and an honor to meet you for the first time. I've met some crazy characters and great guys /gals.
I saw a lot of people acting like true sportsmen. Calling hits, playing honest, and just acting with real integrity.
For the most part, everyone had the safety of the other players in mind. Especially towards the end of the game, I saw humans being more careful with their shots. Zombies moving slower to not spook a full-auto burst. Melee hits that were softer. More control from everyone involved.
There were a few moments in the early missions that might have been questionable: Melee weapons swung too hard, or overhand. Players laying down in doorways. Rushing up and down stairs too fast. Weapon fire aimed a little too low, etc. But I'll be honest: 1) No one intended to hurt anyone else. 2) That's understandable.
In the dark, when adrenaline kicks in, and 3 or 4 enemies round the corner: things can get hectic. And all that goes double for close quarters games: it's just part of the territory. No matter what team, we're all only human.
And like I said, things REALLY gelled in the later missions. I was proud of the zombies who moved slower, and gave humans more time to stay calm and aim carefully. I was proud of the humans for taking care to hit us center mass (Whoever you were in the green tower, covering the stairs:
thank you for taking the extra time to hit my chest protection, and avoid my arms or legs. I owe you one).
I also saw a lot of players owning it and apologising for any accidental hits. They really took care to not hurt anybody, and weren't afraid to say "hey man, I'm sorry about that" when it did.
Major props to you guys for that, it takes courage.
Another thing that impressed me: there was an issue involving weapons fire, and some of the zombie team brought it up to the party involved. Those guys freely agknowledged what happened, and promised to address it.
And they were true to their word: I don't remember any more instances of that problem during the whole rest of the night. Thanks guys.
And Zombie Team, I gotta say we pulled it together too. In fairness, early on, we had some problems of our own with camping in rooms with humans. Not your faults at all, but rather
my fault. It was
my job to be clear on the rule about staggering out of the room when shot, rather than dieing there. I failed that job, and I'm sorry to each and every one of you for it. Spec Ops team leader addressed it to us, and to your credit,
we got it straightened out. I saw a lot more Zombies staggering out of the room, out of sight, and just taking care not to block off any doorways and such.
You guys did perfect, and I'm proud of you.All in all, every single player acted responsibly and fought fair. They also fought hard, and deserve major props for how they acted tonight. Every player on every team: Spec Ops, PMC, Civilian, and Zombie:
you guys have earned your stripes tonight, proud of you. This last message is just for my Zombie team.Because we're on the same team, and because you've earned it, I want to give you guys specific agknowledgement. As zombie volunteers, you guys really helped to make this game worthwhile.
It takes a special kind of person to volunteer their time to getting shot all night, and still making it fun for themselves and other players. You guys went above and beyond the call.If there were any hiccups with how this went down, then it was
my fault for it. I should have been more clear about rules and safety issues, etc before hand. And I'm sorry if you got put in an uncomfortable situation because of it (and I will do better, I promise).
But to your guys' credit, you powered through any issues anyway. We had a lot of fun, we brought the humans a tough fight, we had safety at the top of our minds, and all in all Zombies just really made this game fun for everyone involved. And we managed to pull off a lot of victories: many
many humans were brought into the undead fold.
This couldn't have been done without you guys, and I'm proud of every one of you. Bravo.Spec Ops, PMCs, Civilians: You guys have earned my respect too: hats off to you all. I was extremely pleased to see the sportsmanship of the human teams, and also with the care they took to not hurt anyone.
Careful shots to center-mass, soft melee hits, slow movement, control: I saw examples of all of these, especially in the later missions. And you fought
hard too; Zombies had our work cut out for us.
Human Team Leaders, If you have some special props to give to your own teams, please let them know it here. They've earned it.
Well, looks like I've written a book. Thanks for reading this, I know it took a few hours of your life away. I won't burn up any more.
Honor playing with you all. Look forward to it again soon. Peace out.
