Established rules for riot shields and the like?
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:04:22 AM »
I'm just wondering if any exist, and if not, if anyone thinks there actually should be established rules for riot shields, as they could be a real tactical advantage or disadvantage depending on how they're employed.

I've never seen one used since I started playing in 2003. All you have to do is throw a sticky grenade to them and the person will be out.

I have seen a few shields on the field. Most of the time, they just get yelled at.

They are officially allowed at mile high games, but must be real weight for ballistic shields (like 40 to 60 lb by our estimate) to count as ballistic protection. So... No quarter inch plexi, thin plywood or cardboard

But, if you have a heavy one and want to run with it, it counts as cover just the same as a rock or tree

At my local field, they used to allow them until they banned them for some reason. You werent allowed to have a gun of any sort with a shield but youre allowed a knife. I think they banned them for being "unfair" at least thats what a ref told me.....

LOL Yea the one I'm contemplating making would be pretty heavy since I would kill a quarter inch plexi shield lol...  I just figured I'd ask if there was any existing examples for rules regarding them so I wouldnt waste all that money and time making a killer riot shield to hang as a wall decoration lol
