Real steel Mauser 98k shooting airsoft 8mm BBs

I don’t understand much from the video but, it looks to be that they are using casing with just the primer. I have several questions. What would the fps be? They seem to argue that point a bit. And if it is below 550fps, could someone use it in a game? How accurate would it be? And would it damage the 98ks barrel any? I have a 98k but I am hesitant to try it.

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

My german is a little rusty but I'm pretty sure it said it shot at about 4 joules which is equivalent to 650fps with a .2g bb

But, didn't it say he was using .43g BBs?

As long as the Army doesn\'t know my motivation, they\'ll gladly call me a war hero.

Hence the reason he stated 4j.

even if it's shooting airsoft bb's at a low rate... still considered a firearm by both law... and myself.

It's just the one time that the owner gets a little sleepy while making airsoft rounds and puts a few grains of powder in...

In the video it says, "In der praxis zeigte sich bei einer Entfernung von 50m ein Streukreis von nur 12cm." which i believe means, "in practice at a distance of 50m, it had a grouping of only 12cm." If that’s true the accuracy isn’t horrible.

Other things from the video. German on the left and what I believe is the translation on the right.

bei einer Mundungsenergie von ca. 4 joule --- at a “Mundungsenergie” of about 4 joule

Nur kalibrierte Huelsen verwenden 8x57 Hersteller ist egal --- Only use caliber 8x57, manufacturer does not matter

vor dem ladevorgang unbedingt die Huelsenlaenge Ueberpruefen.--- Before putting the primer in, check the casing

Als Treibladung dienen !!Ausschliesslich!! Zuendhuetchen (Large Rifle) --- For the propellant charge use ONLY a Percussion cap

Also ganz einfach - Really Easy to do

Also according to this web sites calculator - http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filnavn=/articles/fps_limits/fps_calc.htm

.43g BB at 4 joules = 447fps
.20g BB at 4 joules = 656fps

So if that’s right, it is shooting over 100fps more than any game would allow. Or are there different standards for 8mm BBs?

i saw that vid like 4 years ago and thought it was allright, some of the older  air sniper system have that , saw one that the  air was pumped into the shell with a odd hand pump  and then the bb was loaded  ,   was a very accurate springer rifle  but this is a whole different  taco platter here.

That was totally sick/Very fun to watch. But I've been doing a little thinking and here is what it comes down to.

He could definently use the rifle in a game its just a question of if he could use it legally. A .22 LR round purchased with only the primer in the cartridge will travel in excess of 700 FPS. That is a piece of lead very similar to an 8mm .43g bb. The 98k uses a bigger primer than the .22 LR rim fire round. The 98k would be propelling the 8mm .43g bb in speeds excess of what a round of that weigh/shape round could maintain stability. Thats a little troubling and scary. Not only would you have a beyond potential hazard at hand but the gun itself would be damaged by such a process. You have very hot gases breaking down a plastic round during its exit of the fire arm. That would eventually continue to gum up the rifle.
