Magpul Masada/ACR
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:45:28 PM »
This is my first attempt at a good review, so bare with me.

First off, some specs of the gun:
-14.5in barrel
-accurate to about 120ft with .25s
-battery is stored in the handguard
-package includes warrany info, Magpul fake bullet for reciever pins, instructional CD-ROM, MBUS rear sight, M-Version PMAG, ACR
-magazines are picky, it wont accept KA without moddifying. MAG brand works flawlessly
-ROF is about 23bbs per second on a lipo
-FPS is 320-330 with .25s
-$480 retail, but I got it wholesale

I got my Magpul Masada/ACR for a few reasons. First of all, the Masada/ACR is my favorite weapon of all time, yes partly due to MW2. Second, it is a version 2 gearbox, so upgrades are easy and Im very familiar with it. Third, I really do often catch myself switching from left to right handed, so this ambidextrius capability is great. Lastly, it is just a plain sexy weapon.

Stock performance out of this gun is great. It is shooting 320ish fps and gets decent range but great accuracy. The gearbox is also really quiet, even when spitting full auto. One of my only gripes about it is the stock bucking I believe to be crap. Thats my first upgrade Ill do to it. According to my research, the barrel is not a tightbore.

Im yet to come across any major internal issues. The only 2 things Ill end up doing is an m110-m120 spring, and a new bucking. Im stoked to try out the ever so convenient quick-release spring.

External quality is pure Magpul. The upper reciever is an alluminum alloy, so it is VERY light. The rest of the gun is made out of DuPont ploymer that Magpul uses for all of their stuff. The battery space is very roomy. I would say the largest battery it could hold is a 10.8v nunchuck type. Magpul has their logos and trademarks festooned all over the place. The main portion of them is on the pistol grip and magwell area. Imprinted there are tiny Magpul logos. The rest of them are on the right side of the reciever, but a keen eye can find the rest hidden throughout the gun. The charging handle locks back with ease, exposing the hopup. It makes a satisfying CLICK when released. The bolt release/catch is fun to play with.

The QD barrel desgin is one of the coolest features on the gun. All you do is pull dwon a lever, twist, and it slides right out. The only thing that scares me about this is loosing the nub that sits loosely in the hopup.

Ill keep you guys posted on further upgrades, and external mods. I hope Magpul releases their AK lower reciever so I can get around to using my Beta Project mags!
Thanks for your tme reading this and please leave me with some criticism!
