G&G 98k????
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:35:58 PM »
Alright, so I went to the g&g website and I looked at what they are going to be featuring at the vegas shot show, and they have a rifle called the g98k, and it looks AMAZING. I suggest checking it out on there website. I wasn't sure if it was gas or spring so I just put it up here on general discussion.

I can't see the pictures at work, so I'll check it out when I get home but they indicated at Shot Show that it was "similar" to the Tanaka system just like their G96 is.  The naturally wouldn't use the term clone, but that was the impression I was getting from them.  Are you talking it's gas in mag, or the canister is stored internally?

theres like a magazine, that pops out of the Normal L96 mag area, with has a tubelike hole. You drop the smaller 8 oz c02 canisters into. (there for Creamers dispensers at restraunts) then you screw in a plug into the back side of the mag thing, Behind the c02 canister. then you just pop it back in the gun. Best explenation i can give, Reminds me of a c02 powered bb gun sort of.

Its actually a pretty cool design, doesnt look like anything i'v seen before.

Unfortunately I can tell you right now, that no, it sucks.  I was just curious how bad it sucked.  It's all about cool down.  When you have a gas reservoir that small, the gun is going to suffer from cool down.  Badly.  Plus, CO2 powerlet gas systems aren't known for being terribly consistent.

Cool down?  Can you explain?  You mean a longer time between each shot?  The Kar98k was a bolt action rifle, so wouldn't that be plenty of time for the gas to build up pressure again?  Furthermore, the Umarex pellet pistols shoot at 600+ FPS for about 20 shots with one CO2 cartridge, and they're semi-auto.  Shouldn't that be enough?

I can't speak to pellet guns, although I'd love to see some data on that, but cooldown is pretty well documented from an airsoft standpoint.  Such as with KWC/KJW CO2 pistols. CO2 powerlets get cold very quickly, it only take a couple shots to start noticing a performance decrease.

Yea, thats evident in CO2 pellet guns as well.  FPS starts decreasing after 10 shots.
But I mean, you can still get shots off pretty fast, and the FPS will remain semi-constant, well enough for performance at least... that is, if it's anything like Umarex's pellet pistols.
You can watch review + chrono test here:

http://www.pyramydair.com/p/desert-eagl ... -gun.shtml
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/beretta-px4 ... -gun.shtml

video is in top left corner.  I played with these pellet guns before I got into airsoft, and they shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger.  I'll take a video sometime.

We aren't talking about just having enough gas to cycle the gun.  Look at those FPS readings @ 5:38 in the Desert Eagle video.  In 15 shots they got a 130fps variance.  While 5-10fps isn't a noticeable difference, 130fps is.

Is that what you're talking about when you're referring to cooldown?

Well, that's more than just cool down in their case, but cooldown is referring to the pressure if the gas decreasing due to the temperature of the casing dropping due to the expansion in the magazine.
