I would take my FAL over my AK if push came to shove. I saw more of those and G3s in Africa than I did AKs.

Being able to have a bullpup variant means nothing. And if sh!t hit the fan, are you really going to run away to a third world hell hole to hide because there will be more people with AKs to get parts and ammo from? People in those places who have AKs are not easily going to give them or their ammo up. Also, good luck defending yourself with a broken AK in a place where you don't speak the native language, and have fun getting back to America, not a whole lot of CQB in the desert, try not to get shot by a hillbilly in Ajo with a hunting rifle.

when did i say im goin 2 africa when the world ends?? read my last few post  ... and i dont know wat part of africa ur were at cause im not sure how there are more German g3s than Kalashnikovs in Africa... Ive went hiking up Kilimanjaro and ALL the local Tanzanian military and police had AKs...  just because they were in Black Hawk Down doesn't mean they r there in reality... there are some but not as many as AKs..

P.S. when the world end im pretty sure its gonna be from either nuclear war or Jesus coming back 2 earth (or zombiez lol)... so im pretty sure that if i do survive that, most of the world's population would be either dead or eating other people. in that case Aks arent gonna be that hard to take from a random hand laying on the ground... so all i have to do is head down to mexico and try to find one of the old abandoned cartel houses.(not gonna be easy) or just head down to Scottsdale Gun Club and hit that Minigun in the lobby or the rental full autos   [smilie=armata_pdt_36.gif]  [smilie=armata_pdt_35.gif]  [smilie=armata_pdt_12.gif] and bullpup does mean something. shorter gun + same barrel = great multipurpose weapon...

the FAL is a great gun to and would be one of my top choices (h8 the kick on that thing though...)

Ugh let's just end this...

The worlds greatest military, the United States Military, uses Stoner weaponry. If the Kalashnikov's were any better, our rifles would be designed around that platform/platform idea. Once again, the US Military uses Stoner. Case closed? I would think so but your still going to find some reason why AK's are better.

(P.S. I love AK's, they are my favorite rifle of all time, and for 30-40 years they were the world's greatest rifles. But I that doesn't mean they are the most effective when put in a trained or untrained combatants hands in modern times.)

Are you rolling around in the dirt or trying to hit targets at 300 meters?

Lol, the U.S. military rarely, if ever, uses the BEST available hardware available for general issue. Instead, the lowest bidder that meets the minimum defined standards will generally be used.

Great to find another AK luvr... But the reason y we don't use the AK cause it was designed by the Soviet Union (communist) and I'm pretty sure we are not gonna suck up our pride and h8red enough to use a SUPIRIOR weapon...

When did I say you were going to Africa? I said any 3rd world place outside of the US, Mexico in particular since you were hinting at Central America having plenty of AKs to have parts compatibility with.

I lived in Kenya and Ethiopia for 2 years and most of the police and private security companies in Nairobi were running G3s and Fals, and from working with guys from Zimbabwe and South Africa I suspect there are plenty of them there as well. I didn't say there were more of them than AKs in all of Africa but I was making the point that there are plenty of other rifles that the world nations have adopted to choose from. And besides, quantity is not always a mark of quality, nor is government adoption, or third world usage. I can guarantee there are more machetes(and deaths from them) in Africa than AKs, but that doesn't mean I am putting down my AR/AK/FAL for a sharp panga.
Neither are all AKs the same if you want to get all nitty gritty. Is yours a Russian izmash, saiga, Romanian, Yugo, Czech, Egyptian, US reciever? which one? nodak, arsenal, OOW... milled, stamped? 7.62 or 5.45x39mm

I have a 1986 Romanian G parts kit on a NDS-3 receiver with Tapco 922r compliance parts shooting 7.62x39mm, it is nice, I like it. But it is not the only gun I own that I like or would depend on in a crisis.

There are some really crappy AKs out there and some really nice ARs, and vice versa. There are US made, gas piston rifles that are excellent, and there are some soviet block stuff that is phenomenal.
I still really want an RPD, PKM and a MAG58

Accuracy at range will always be a decisive factor in combat even in urban terrain, but this kind of talk is out of my and your lane.

This topic has run it's course.
