What's your price range?  A lot of the vets use Icom F4S's.

cheap != good, i would advise investing in a higher-end comm set. ICOMs are great

check out reddogradios.com, tell them airsoftarizona sent you and they will show you what you need (radio/necessary programming).

Just use UHF, its what the rest of us here use in our Icoms. I highly recommend just going through reddogradios and getting the refurbs, you're not giving up anything besides that new radio smell and I'm sure they can it and sell it somewhere if you need it that badly.

I agree with Red Dog Radios, thats where I got mine, came programmed for AA and Ive yet to have a problem with it. If you get an Icom, youll never need another radio.

Tom at Red Dog is THE best. Just talked to him today in fact.
If you go with an alternative such as a Motorolla or Midland, you want one that opperates in the
FRS band. Most will be rated in the FRS/GMRS frequencies. My advise would be if you plan on opperating  in the GMRS band or transmitting at power over 4 Watts to get a GMRS license.
But that's just my recomendation.
I am not going to go into details on that for it's all over the internet as well on FCC's site.
