Do not go sportline, waste of time. Invest in a GandG, ASGI Custom for budget and reliability. You can also check out Cymas, or JGs and upgrade from there. The full metals are pretty good quality. The 200-300 range will be your VFCs, KWAs, ARES', etc. All perform quite well will minor tweaking.

I suggest the Echo1 for both reliability and durability. I recently parted it out, but I had it since 2007 and the gearbox broke about 6 months ago and it wasn't even their high end versions.

From my experience, I'd go for the Echo1.

I agree, gotta love Echo 1 for moderately priced AEGs, that perform pretty well out of the box.

If by ASGI Custom. you mean their G4's and I4's, those ARE effectively Sportlines.

I just listed all possible kinds. If you want to go off your base income, then a cheaper Echo 1 or GandG will be your best choice. Unless you're a 21 yr old that works 40+ hrs plus hours a week, and doesn't pay rent, or contribute toward household, then get a KWA or ARES M4, :3.

Then your answer lies in boneyards, and what I stated above. Good luck!

They are plastic receivers which is what most consider Sportlines.  Same goes for the ICS based I4's.

Then you should look into a cheaper hobby.

I thought they did that to keep the AEGs light because of being made of some stronger polymer of plastic. Even some are made with polymer RIS.

They did it because it's cheaper.  I'm not saying they are bad guns, on the contrary, I've recommended both guns numerous times.  But for all intents and purposes, they ARE Sportlines.  They have plastic bodies, arguably cheaper internals, and are marketed as a low cost entry level alternative to their full priced models.  That's generally what most consider a Sportline.

For as hard and as long I've used my GnG, the 'cheaper gear sets' have endured some punishment. Thanks for the enlightenment. May I ask your expertise on a few AKs?
