Acetone will marr most plastics used in GBBs.
That said, the barrel of the KJW M9 is molded in orange, and then painted black, save for a 2 inch section at the tip. Heres what you do: take the slide off, and remove the barrel (be careful not to lose the tiny plastic spacer in the metal block at the lower front of the slide). Take the rear metal feed ramp off, and dis-assemble the barrel assy as far as you can. You should be able to get it down to just the plastic outer-barrel.
Next, you will paint it. Clean the outer barrel. I use windex and a toothbrush to make sure any silicon oil, debris, etc. The ammonia in the windex is a powerful enough solvent for this task, and will not harm the platic. Spray it, and scrub it as much as you can with the toothbrush, then rinse it under warm water. Next, leave it to air dry in an area where there is little dust. If you get antsy, and want to towell dry it, use an unused coffee filter. Paper towels, cloth towels, and napkins can all leave behind lint. Don't use them. Its still a good idea to let it sit for awhile anyways to make sure the small water droplets you cannot see are dried up as well.
I used cheap Wal Mart paint in the blue can to paint my KJW M9 barrel, and it is quite durable. Make sure to use a flat black, it dries alot quicker. After use, the barrel will take on a similar sheen to that of the slide, frame, etc.
So after the barrel is done drying from the cleaning process, give it several vey light coats of black. It's best to give it several light coats (waiting no more than 10 minutes in between), than a couolel heavy coats. The flat black dries quickly (even quicker in the sun), and can be handled after as little as 5 minutes most of the time (depending on brand). After you achieve the desired coverage, LEAVE IT ALONE! Let it dry for a day before replacing the inner barrel, other parts, and installing it into the slide. This will give the paint a chance to harden up properly.
