Accessories or Gear?
« on: February 09, 2012, 07:25:37 PM »
Right now I'm trying to decide between buying some new gear or some new internals and accessories for my M4. Basically I would like some input on what others may think is more important or what I should buy before the other. If I were to buy gear I plan on buying a swiss arms tiras vest, camelback, gloves, and a gunbag. Accessories being a G&P aimpoint, kac qd suppressor, new lipo or 9.6v battery, and a motor

Gear I have currently:
Desert BDU
Boots
Balaclava
Shemagh

Accessories:
None

Well before anything else I'd suggest a gun bag. That's probably one of the most important pieces of gear in this sport for transportation to anywhere. After that, it's all up to what you think you need.

Better than nothing. If you were going for gear and you're buying a plate carrier with some pouches, I'd suggest getting some mags if you don't already have any. The only accessories for the gun I'd suggest is maybe a new battery if yours is crapping out on you or you want another. I wouldn't buy anything unless you absolutely need it for the gun but considering I like to buy gear I'd go with the gear first.

I'm kind of in the same situation. I have 3 color desert BDUS, an MBSS plate carrier, one dual kangaroo pouch, an opscore fast helmet. And a ghetto headset, and radio. I want to get some more pouches for my PC, and a M.A.P pack. Along with some goggles I can operator cut onto my helmet. OR get an aim point and 3x mag for my rifle. It's really hard to choose >.<

Agreed, I originally was gonna buy some gear and just run iron sights but I can't stand standard m4 iron sights.

Optics are key, iron sights are good, but for fast target acquisitions a dot sight is key. I assume you use a high-cap. but i would also get mid-cap mags, and some way to carry them. I wear a plate carrier, but a LBH is just as good and is all personal preference. After the optic, i would then get you full load out, what you get is personal preference, then you can upgrade your gun. gun upgrades are supper importaint, you can be highly effective with a stock AEG shooting 350FPS if you play your game to that gun.

I only use the high cap cuz its the only thing I currently have which I also cannot stand. Thanks for the advice, probably gonna buy the vest, some mags, and an optic of some sort. Can anyone reccomend some goggles that'll fit under an Army of Two mask.

Camelbacks are necessary if you plan on doing ops lasting more than 30 minutes. If you don't like camelbacks then use a canteen pouch of some sort.

If you're using an army of 2 mask then just use some safety glasses underneath. Those should work just fine unless you cut out the mesh in the eyes.

Are flashlights ever really used, debating on whether I should buy one.

I have one and I never use it during the day but when I play at Vanguard or if the field has some sort of indoor situation going on then I use it. It helps trace bb's and it works perfect in Vangaurd. You will only really have to use it at night ops but other than that, they really aren't used.

I own an army of 2 mask myself and unless lenses underneath are required, I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't had a BB shatter on them unless someone was running bio's indoors, which they got in deep shit for.

I would highly recommend a hydration pack. Hydrate or Die. Also I would buy a vest and some mags before I worked on the weapon. I personally find no need for optics because we are simply not shooting long enough range with airsoft rifles. Also if you play with your weapon long enough you can already tell where the bb's are going to go. I find optics a waste of money. But then again that's my opinion.

For a vest I would recommend an ALICE LBV. They're very cheap and they work great. I got mine for 5 dollars and have never had any issues with them. They're lightweight and hold an adequate amount of magazines. Also I have just put on some molle pouches around the belt to hold more magazines and a drop pouch. Plate carriers are too expensive for me. They are also bulky. And we're airsofting so I find a plate carrier redundant.

But remember we're just throwing our opinions at you. Take what you like and develop your own system. Mine works great for me and it might not for others :)

Here's my advice for mid caps. If you buy em, you NEED the mag pouches AND a dump pouch. Otherwise mag changes under fire SUCK. With those two things, they're fun!  :D

For the gun, the first thing I would do is ditch the 8.4V battery that comes with it. Either with a Li-Po or a 9.6V Ni-Cd. Also, if you buy a Li-Po, search ebay first or hobbyking.com or something. They're super overpriced at any airsoft specific place.

I would advice something cheap at first if you're looking for Molle, not a full plate carrier. I wear a Fighting Load Carrier (FLC). They're cheap (~$15) and have quite a bit of Molle real-estate.

Camelbacks are a necessity for sure, especially once it starts heating up. I have an off brand bladder that I've had for probably 7 years now and it still doesn't leak.

One thing I decided I NEEDED after a couple of OPs was a set of knee pads. I don't know how I ever lived without them nowadays. I bought mine used.

I'm kind of a cheap bastard in case you haven't noticed. It really makes you prioritize though, when you want to spend the least amount of money possible....  ;)
