Personally, I'd worry more about requiring coms before I worried about what weapon you carry. If it is a mag compatibility issue, then I'd see the logic, but who cares if somebody is using a m16 rather than a 417 like he should be???

I'm building a custom gun, AR platform, M4 mags, but is nothing that was ever issued, or ever will be issued. So that would be unacceptable?

M4 and m16 are close enough.  I would prefer primary weapons to be weapons used currently by the US military or weapons that will potentially be used in the coming years.  So what I should say rather is the acceptable gun platforms for the team are strongly preferred, not required.

So how can I try to be on the team or try out if we can't play

I'll PM you the address, but I don't want to publicly exclaim it for everyone to see.  The field we are on is private and the owners are nice enough to let us play, so I'd rather not have that many people.  Besides, all you have to say is "I want in" and you're on the team.  There's not enough members or organization to have tryouts yet.
