Day Z
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:19:07 PM »
Anyone play it? If so I'm looking to expand the group I currently play with from 3 to 8 players. Add me on steam: TheBlasianNinja.

Basically it's an open world military game with zombies. It features permadeath so anything you've gathered; food, weapons, gear all stays on the body or in the backpack of that dead character. So when you restart all you get is 1 bandage, 1 painkiller, 1 flashlight, and I think a watch. People will also lure you or kill you for your stuff and all the servers are also on real time meaning if it's 8am in real life it's 8am in the game and progresses at the same rate.

Day Z is going Standalone. I'm just gonna buy that, rather then buy Arma.

I'll buy it as soon as the devs stop being controlling, condescending dicks. I also fail to see how he can legally make it a standalone retail product given hes using a commercial engine he has no rights to.

There is another article, don't remember where I read it, but he has a potential investor that will give him the funds to purchase rights to the engine.

I'll buy it as soon as the devs stop being controlling, condescending dicks. I also fail to see how he can legally make it a standalone retail product given hes using a commercial engine he has no rights to.

Dean 'Rocket' Hall is a current employee at Bohemia Interactive as one of the Game Designers, I'm pretty sure they'd be more than happy to get him a license to the Engine, Considering the mod he has produced has introduced more than 970,000 new players to ARMA2. Since you have to pay roughly $30 for Combined Ops to play it. But I assume around 25% of the population of DayZ already owns CO.

970,000
-25%
x$30
=
HolyBumFuckBatman ($22m Rounded up)

And he doesn't make a dime of that. That all goes to BI, which I'm sure they're more than happy about. Of course, those numbers are being generous, but you can't deny that a huge influx of currency has been thrown at BI thanks to the Devs working on DayZ. Even if BI didn't want to just.. Give away a License to their Engine or Rights, and wanted to charge Dean, There are tons of investors lined up who want to get in on this, aswell as fans campaigning to start a kickstarter. There is alot of money to be made.

As far as the devs being 'Controlling, Condescending Dicks', thats your personal outlook, even if you think they are being as such, they are still successful.

If I see a DayZ standalone running on the Real Virtuality engine going up for buy, I will most definitely 'Pre-Purchase' if that option is available, or buy it right away if that is the case. I personally think that Rocket and the Devs should make use of the Rea Virtuality 4 engine that they no doubt have access to working at BI, and begin Porting DayZ onto it, making use of the new features it offers rather than fiddling around on a Old engine and spending all that time, and release it standalone RV4 sometime around the release of ARMA3.

Yeah I got it, but one of the members in my group has us use steam chat because skype makes them drop frames. Skype name: Wobblefett.
