I'm in for BF2/L4D2. I could probably be talked into CSS or sit out while other people play. BFBC2 doesn't appeal to me at all nor do I have extra copies of that but obviously whatever the majority wants. Personally, I would REALLY like us to play with the Hard Justice Mod for BF2. IMO it does a great job of expanding BF2 (more weapons and vehicles) without radically changing the mechanics and adds some good maps. I can bring the necessary installation files if people don't/can't install before hand. It doesn't mess with your stock BF2 install so you can still play that without issue.
I'm up, I also happen to admin the #1 Dalian Plant Server for BF2, so I could kick to make room, it is based in dallas, and have access to a private server we could use.
I'm pretty sure one of my systems is still setup as a BF2 server. Or I might be able to cobble another one together. Plus a dozen people from one location trying to connect to an outside server doesn't work so great. nuke, on that note, send me a PM if you want to discuss setting up a dedicated server for the LAN party. It really does make life easier assuming you don't already have one setup yourself.
Actually I will be able to make it because I'll be coming home in the afternoon that Saturday. Mace u still planning on bringing that extra computer?
I can do that. I'd recommend bringing a set of headphones though as the Creative headset I have isn't terribly comfortable for longer sessions (IMO).
Stupid question, but how does everyone go about transporting their rigs and gear? I haven't really been interested in attending any LAN parties in the past due to the fear of something breaking.
Carefully.
Remove any wireless antennas, put the case/monitor in the back seat and use the front seat to keep it from moving (if possible). Buckle the case in using the seat belt if possible. Wrapping a towel (or similar) around it doesn't hurt. Triple check that you didn't forget any cables. Make sure games are installed and patched before hand. Bring headphones, not speakers. If you've got wireless devices, bring extra batteries.
The computer itself really isn't that fragile. As long as it's not flying around, it's going to be fine. Even if it's flying around, at worse you really are only going to damage the case. The LCD is the bigger issue. As long as you can buckle it in with the screen facing back, you'll be fine. You just don't want anything bashing into the screen.
