I consider the abrogation of any of our rights to be an abomination, not just the second.  It appears to me that Matt Bracken has tunnel vision.

Then you should email him and let him know your thoughts Lead.  He has a second book in the works.

Thanks for the suggestion, Harley.  I sent the following...

Matt

I consider the abrogation of any of our rights to be an abomination, not just the second. It appears to me that you're doing a terrible injustice by focusing on the Democrats and the 2nd on your home page for you book.  How do you feel about the Republicans and their ongoing assault on the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments via such legislation as the "Patriot" Act?

No offense, but I think that's the whole idea of his book - his FOCUS on the 2nd Amendment.  Do you fault the 9/11 Commission Report for not covering the deficiencies of Social Security or the US Tax Code?

No offense taken.

Ahhhh, I thought the idea of Matt's book was total social breakdown and chaos in the US as a result of the abrogation of only our 2nd Amendment rights by Democrats.  Not 9/11, social security, or tax code deficiencies.  In such a situation as the collapse of America as we currently know her I would think there would be losses beyond the 2nd such as the disappearance of the U.S. Constitution and damn near every aspect of our Bill of Rights.

Then again, maybe Matt is interested in nothing more than selling a comic book.

Matt's book focuses directly at the 2nd amendment on purpose.  I'm sure he could have covered the other amendments as well but then we're looking at an encyclopedia instead of a novel.  Let's face it, the 2nd amendment is the only thing keeping the rest of the constitution from being totally re-written and our fore fathers new that.

Lead, have you read his book?  If not why don't you read it and then tell us what you think?

There is no reason the novel would have to be turned into an encyclopedia in order to encompass the more realistic scenario.

And it does appear that in reality the Constitution and Bill of Rights are being entirely re-written (more accurately described as abrogated) even with the 2nd being pretty much left intact.  Doesn't say much for the postulation that such a thing couldn't happed with the 2nd Amendment in place.

I might consider reading the book but frankly the description from the author makes it sound like a rather shallow work.

An intelligent tyrant who wanted to take over America would take away all of our rights and leave the 2nd for last.  By the time we woke up, it would be too late.

We'd be left exercising our final option running barefooted up and down the alleys with towels on our heads and armed with rpgs and other small arms trying to rebuild the foundations of the freedom we let slip through our fingers.

I think we can stop it before it reaches that point.  If only we'll awaken.

On the subject of losing amendments, if you take note of key court cases, especially those dealing with the Supreme Court, it is now our courts that determine what is law, not our constitution! Frankly, I'm for less government control on just about everything. I've noticed government is good at enforcing law and running a united military (usually) but stinks when it comes to actually making laws. Leadmagnet is right.  We can sit here and argue for hours over all sorts of issues, but this I think we all can agree on: Lets start calling these damn politicians on their constitutional violations before we lose our freedoms. If you disagree, let me know, eh?
