I wonder if those big Ops in Cali are considered a "sporting event".  They are organized, confined and regulated.  Also, what about events like Civil War reinactments?

In public...how many of you take your airsoft guns into public?  Airsoft will still live in California.

The wording of the article is extremely vague and can be interpreted in many ways.  For example, "public" could mean anywhere that's not "private property" (that would be BAD for airsoft in CA).  "Sporting events" could mean anything that is officially sanctioned as a "sport" (which wouldn't include airsoft).  I'd like to see the actual law as it appears in the law books.

instant life or death decision?  bullshiat.  if the person starts to point it at the cops, then they can fire.  if they arent threatening with it, cops are NOT allowed to fire.  if someone is dumb enough to point a pretend gun at someone pointing a real one at them, well, the gene pool obviously needs a bit more chlorine.

But seriously, I would think airsoft functions would still be able to take place, as they are sanctioned events.

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but for me Airsoft is a GREAT workout and therefore in my opinion a sport.

If you all recall, Operation Restore Order was billed as a sort of theatrical recreation.  I think this may be the way to approach it.  Seeing as how the major ops are making DVDs, this might work.  Granted, it would be a pain to make sure one person is "manning the camera" at small weekend or monthly events [:P].  Further, I am not sure what kind of permit is involved with making a "theatrical recreation".

In arizona, you don't need a filming permit if you are non-profit, unless you are in a public place or on public land. Thats what I was told anyway by when I applied for a permit for the film I'm helping to put together. Trailer up soon! Hopefully, anyway . . .[;)]

If airsoft gets banned from California it will have a big effect on all of America. If you haven't noticed California has by far the most airsoft stores out of any of the states. Also quite a few of the sites in America are based out of here. Not that this ban effects the online stores at all but all its going to take now is one 10 year old or someone acting like one to go and due something stupid and Arnold will gladly TERMINATE airsoft from California.

In similar news, ahnuld also signed a new law which says that anyone who in any way distributes copyrighted digital material must make their email address available with it. Basically, the new law doesn't make internet file sharing illegal, but it does make it illegal if you do it anonymously (ie. without an email address available). The punishment is a fine of up to $2500 and/or up to a year in jail.

After the speech he gave at the RNC, I was really loving the governator... but what the hell is he doing this month?! Between the aformentioned replica ban, the .50 ban, and now this file-sharing law, the guy has totally lost my support.

I have always kinda figured I would go back to CA at some point. I was always ok (not happy, but ok) with the wacky laws because if/when I go back I would be a law enforcement officer and the CA AWB wouldn't apply to me. However, at this rate....

Can Airsoft be considered a sport? I know it is in our opinion, but what legally constitutes a sport? Some think ice-blocking or hackey-sack is a sport. Even the Olympics picks some wierd, silly games as exhibition sports. Where would that be defined by the law? We usually have teams playing against each other in a physical game, sounds like a sport. Just because there are no school-sponsored or public pro Airsoft teams, doen't mean that it can't be considered a sport, right? ???

I guess what it comes down to, is young, immature kids(not all kids are immature) can't handle the responsibility that comes with airsoft guns, so they get in trouble, or worse, hurt. That is why airsoft may be an endangered game. I bet some parents don't even know what their kids have in their rooms. That's the other part of the problem.

I hope common sense and good parenting can overcome this problem before we lose it all...
