The point of the law was to stop stupid kids from running around thier neighborhoods, local parks and schools, shooting eachother with springers. Even with how incredibly obvious it is as to how patently stupid that behavior is, they still did it...and its a matter of time before a kid gets shot and killed for having a springer in public. As to the organized games on private land, I just don't see it being a problem.

Thanks Haji. This is exactly what we keep trying to preach to the younger guys on this forum. Stop thinking that it's OK and cool to play your Airsoft games out in public, ie the park across the street, or up on your rooftop. It only takes one time for some kid to get shot by a cop who's instictive reaction is to save his own life by taking yours if he feels threatened to jepordize Airsoft in our state.

Too often I hear people my age and younger talking about having airsoft guns and playing on dirt roads and in the streets and park. Heres one such story that really upset me:

One day I was at my girlfriends house and her brother who was 11 at the time came home and was ranting and raving like usual but came up to me and said that his friends who were btw the ages of 10-12 were shooting him with airsoft guns. He told me they were Springers and GBB's and they were standing on their roof shooting anything or anyone that came by. Being quite pissed off, I walked over there and got them down..then had my few words with them..Although I threatened to call the police if they didn't stop and keep their guns away, I think they were more afraid of me then the cops. It hasnt been a problem since. I would have liked to talk to their parents about what made them buy their "little kiddy" an airsoft gun and why they arent hidden from the child unless he/she is fully supervised at all times.

Another such problem is just being able to hop online with a parents Credit or debit card and order something, then the parents dont find out till the card statement comes. So we have stupid "kids" running around toting springers, and some with AEG's. Makes me sick. I try to take my part in keeping airsoft alive in AZ and especialy for minors but NOT doing what these kids are. I make sure my gun is either wrapped in something, in a case, or well hidden when in public. I try to make the transfer from my house to vehicle before games very quickly as to avoid confrontations. Lets just hope the people who are ruining airsoft from everyone happen to walk in front of a bus.[;)]

Busta-you did a good thing there. The kids we're talkin' about are just not thinking; they have extreme shortsightedness. I hope that what you did will at least make them think, even if its just "I don't want Busta comin' over here to bust my chops". Good job, brother!

There are some very influential members of our community that are working towards getting airsoft an organized status that will preclude application of laws like this. For the most part, the players from Cali that are known to most of you are very much against the "springer in the street" (SIT) use of the guns, and support enforcement that stops that. I'm hoping that will come down in the very near future. At this point, it looks like several members of AXF have "taken point" on this issue. I fully support those efforts, but I'm leaving Cali eary next week to move to Kentucky, where damn near everything is legal. Oh, yes, I will be owning a cyclic weapon in the not too distant future.

The current airsoft/replica statute being referred to in California is ill conceived and poorly worded. Airsofters who supported it didn't do any of us any favors.

I live in California, and the cops don't do sh*t about the new law. I went to a whole airsoft event that was played in a public forest without any permission. The cops came and asked what we were doing, we told them and they said, "have fun." And just left. There are some kids that play every Saturday at a public park. The cops and security guards don't do anything about it.

CA Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Bill Banning Toy Guns

Buh, bye to airsoft in California!

Local officers praise new law about toy guns
Governor signs bill banning realistic-looking weapons in public
By KELLY NIX
The Salinas Californian

------------------------------------------------

ABOUT THE LAW
A new state law prohibits the use of toy or imitation guns in public unless they are clear plastic or painted a bright color. Fines range from $100 for the first offense to $200 for the second offense and a misdemeanor charge for three or more offenses.

Salinas police say they overwhelmingly support a new state law that prohibits displaying toy guns in public unless the weapons are clearly fake.

"If it discourages people from carrying realistic guns, it can only help in preventing potentially tragic confrontations," said Salinas police Lt. Kelly McMillin.

On Monday, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 1858 by Sen. Joseph Dunn, D-Santa Ana. The law requires that for toy guns to be shown or played with in public, they must be made of clear plastic or be painted a bright color so that they are not mistaken for a real firearm. The law took effect immediately.

Those who break the law face a $100 fine for the first offense, $200 for second offense and a misdemeanor charge on a third or subsequent offense, according to a statement from state Attorney General Bill Lockyer's office.

Deputy police Chief Rick Moore said Salinas officers have had numerous close calls involving realistic-looking toy weapons.

Earlier this year, an officer investigating a call of a person with a firearm came face-to-face with a boy holding a paintball gun, Moore said.

"The officer, through all of this, realized it was a paintball (gun) and didn't shoot the kid," he said.

Some of the imitation or toy guns Salinas police officers have confiscated look so authentic they're dead ringers for the real thing, McMillin said.

"When a police officer sees somebody with a weapon, you have seconds or fractions of a second to make a life-or-death decision. You certainly don't have time to inquire about the authenticity of the gun."

Along with cap guns or other toys, the law also applies to airguns, including the BB and pellet variety.

The law requires that imitation firearms manufactured after July 1, 2005, have a warning label that states the law.

Theatrical productions and sporting events that use imitation guns are exempt from the law.

The legislation also allows prosecutors to file additional charges if someone uses a realistic-looking fake firearm in a public building, airport or school.

Slow down, everyone is going over the top with this one. The law is there for two reasons, to appease the liberals (Arnold needs those votes) and for safety.

Most of you probably don't go around carrying your airsoft guns in public in a very conspicuos manner--so it doesn't apply to you. The law is there for the idiots who go arround brandishing their airsoft guns and scaring poeple and putting them selves at risk with law enforcement. Most all of us play on private property, designated fields, and sponsored events; therefore, what is known is to be expected---its airsoft!

Information is the best cure for ignorance....

Not quite a "typical newb"... He's an adult and had something legit to add to this thread. If I joined a CA based forum and saw some slightly wrong info about AZ, I would probably do just what he did, too. This is a perfect example of when necroposting is a good thing.

Welcome to the forums, Dead.
