Well my oppinion on this is if you wanna play outside thats fine, but don't get on the roof of your house in broad daylight and display your weapon especially if your houses back up to a main road or roads as the case may be thats called ignorance and some one will wind up hurt i mean come on these guns are totally realistic to the average joe schmo you may know they're just toys but others won't and that can only cause problems for you and your parents so just play it safe and stay on the ground behind a fence and try not to shoot over it if possible
Well, i asked a police officer about that. It was kind of a wording thing If you call it an airsoft gun, its treated just like a pellet gun. Now if you call it something like you would call a paintball marker, its legal. Also, he said a few other things about realism.

Paintball markers are illegal to fire in city limits. That I do know

I know.. I wasnt the one on the roof. We still play at our houses (since we're ALLOWED) but although we're allowed on our roofs, we still don't do on the roof because the same thing might happen mistakenly and we don't wanna be shot with a taser gun or rubber bullet (they mentioned that's the first thing that would happen).

So, nomatter what anyone told you guys (goes out to everyone), us playing at our house won't screw it up for anyone since the 15 cops said it was ok, just a mistaken crisis. So we'll keep playin at our house!

still doesnt mean someone carrying a real firearm wont draw down on you. If they think its a real firearm, and they see you pointing it around, and you accidentally point it at them, they might plug you. Just dont play in your neighborhood. Simple as that.

Two stories to back up what everyone is saying. First story: My freshman year of HS me and some buddies (I think they're were about 8 of us) were having a sleep over to celebrate someone's b-day. Just after it was dark, we broke out the springer pistols and decided to play in and around his yard. We had played for about 30 min. when a guy came out with a drawn desert eagle and quietly told two of the guys to sit down. Well, to make the story short, the rest of us had no idea this was happening and basically the guy just talked to my two buddies about playing with fake weapons in an alley at night. Second story: 6 of us were out playing in the wash, outside of city limits. We had permission from the property owner so no problems there. Problem is, someone saw us and called the sheriff's dept., describing us as (and i quote) "terrorists with automatic weapons and protective face armor" (what the heck is face armor?). Anyway 6 cops and a SWAT team show up - the SWAT team in their APC (by the way the response time was still 30 min. lol). They come at us with weapons drawn yelling at us to "get down!" Of course we do exactly what they say. Three of us (the ones wearing paintball masks) were handcuffed (thats all the hand-cuffs they had - just one of many things I could point out that they did very wrong). We weren't doing a thing wrong, so it all came out OK. From now on, though, I always call the sheriff's dept. and let them know when and where we'll be playing.

That's funny... funny but serious. I guess maybe we should call the dept. and let them know, but the place we're playing (Busnhell Tanks)... would we be able to play there? Like.. private property bull s***, or is it land we could call and play on?

I generally only play at the wash, and i generally play with 2 of my friends. we play 3 games or so(like 2 hours max). joggers see us and SOMETIMES waves to us while we wait til they are out of the area to unpause the game. Ive never had a problem there, i never had to ask anyone if we could play there and i dont ever remember if anyone notified the shieff that we would be playing there when grant still lived next door. I go there becuase its the closest place to me and because its a nice place to play at with a small group. Whats the difference between his senario and everyone else who has play at the wash?(which is located next to a elemetary school in a very nice neiborhood) I understand that we have to be carefull choosing when and where to play at and who to talk to, but i dont see that it gives anyone any right to go and yell at someone who played on their own property. now im not saying that we should all be allowed to run around our front yard shooting each other without atleast sending fliers and checking with the HOA(home owners assoc.) just give you fellow airsofters some respect. im sure 15 men with guns showing up at their door was enough punishment as it is....im sorry if I touched anyone the wrong way

If one of you butt heads get shot by a cop because he mistook your Airsoft gun for the real thing it sure as hell will screw it up. Some politician will push a bill through to ban them or something along those lines. On top of that, are your parents ready to pay a lawsuit by someone who's kid got his eye shot out or lost a tooth because you butt heads just had to play in on YOUR property. Go ask your mom or dad if their ready to do that?

Butt Heads!!!

I strongly agree, people need to think about their actions and results. Just becuase I am on my property of a whole whopping 1/4 acre, doesnt mean that I can do what I want. I cant shoot my real steal in my back yard, shooting into the ground because I own it. You cant do that because once the bullet leaves your gun you can not control where it ends up and thats the same with a bb or any other projectile. Come on guys where is your common sense.

If I am a cop or just walking down the street in my neighborhood and see some one with an mp5 pointing in my direction you better believe that in a fraction of a second I am going to fire before I do not have the ability any more. I will protect my self first and ask questions later, like was that gun real or not? If it looks like a gun, acts like a gun and smells like a gun, then treat it like a gun.

Harley srry if i offended you i agree that playin outside on your own property is wrong i mean i live on an acre lot have taken precautions alerted neighbors and even put up a small but effective saftey net around the fence on my entire property to stop ricochets from going over the wall,I always let my neighbors know b-4 we go out back to play a game and they are real understanding i suppose its all in how you approach the situation i mean we even got permission from the HOA to play night games at the park but we have yet to do it because we would have to notify all the ppl in the area and also let the police know.

i do understand that its a pritty dumb idea to go around shooting in a residential area without the proper safty issues taken care of first, im just saying we shouldn't be the ones that yelling and insulting them for a mistake. They got parents and gardians for that. lets give them advice on how to make the same situation better next time. The easiest way out many not always be the right way out, keep that in mind.

Yeah, I gotta agree with mobiusbang on that one. I know that I'd catch a whole lot of hell from my parents if 15 cops showed up at the door bc/I was playing airsoft. We might not have done that kind of thing, but I'm willing to bet we have some advice on what they can do so that kind of thing doesn't happen again. We've nailed the "don't shoot around your neighborhood" thing down pretty well, so lets offer a few other ideas. I know that Ron (Jungletoy in Glendale) mentioned to me an indoor place that they either play at or will soon on Tues (I think). Anyone know of something else like that?
