My guess is they're using AK's because ammo is more plentiful. As to if they're using them by issue I've no idea, but I doubt it.

Note the camoflauged used.  They arent marines.  I noticed the same on the news tonite, also noting that the camo looks almost like the "mulitcam" in discussion elsewhere on this board. Im not sure what the Iraqi forces' camo looks like, but Id say those are most likely Iraqi forces using the AKs.  Rick

From what I've heard they are the "Elite" Iraqi military. Not sure what Elite means there, but they are all Iraqies so far.  The US troops will be going in soon though.

From what I have read (reports from the guys training the "elite" Iraqis) they are truly exceptional soldiers.  Not just some guys from the street that have been trained to shoot straight.  They can get the jop done.

Best of luck to them, saw some pics this morning on MP.net of a group of guys that cleared out the hospital.  cool guy with is SPR taking part in the action.

I'm glad to see that we are finally going to go clean that place out.

Also, why am I seeing so many pictures of Marines carrying AK-type weapons instead of standard issue m16s and m4s?
Are there certian units that can carry whatever they want or what?
