Just curious.....
« on: January 11, 2005, 12:37:49 PM »
I am curious to know if any teams or organizatins have had trouble with a spy in thier ranks, and if so how was it handled was done about it.

I have always understood Airsoft to be a very honorable sport and as such I would find this type of activity to irreprehensible. I am curious to know what everyone else feels on this.

I suppose if the scenario allows for it; other than that, I think it should be assumed that the players are above betrayal of their country.  If it was just one player who decided to do it on spur of the moment, I'd say that's a little ridiculous.  It's not any kind of malevolent offense, though, so I'd say warn the player, and if it happens again, ban him from a game.  Don't be too hard on him.  Just know that's kinda lame/stupid.

It is said that on the eve of battle, Dienekes was told that the Persian archers were so numerous that, when they fired their volleys, the mass of arrows blocked out the sun.  \"Good,\" Dienekes laughed, \"then we\'ll have our battle in the shade.\"

Well.....One way of confirming a spy is by passing disinformation onto the spy that you are pretty sure he will pass on to his true loyalties. Then you wait and see if his true friends/team or your enemy acts accordingly with your disinformation.  Make sure that only you know what you said to the possible spy. Just to cover your ass too, write down what you with a date and who you told it to, seal it in an envelope or something else so tampering won't come into question. I like to use the US mail myself and mail to myself if I need this type of evidence. Ounce you have the evidence that can't be refused he/she may just leave on their own. Do this with maybe one other person that you know you can trust and work your way through the suspects.

I'd be curious for a little more information on just what we mean by a spy in the ranks. Is it something like a player in a large Op working against the team as either storyline or his own idea? Or is it some ya-hoo that decides he's going to turn OpFor on you mid-game just for fun?

Actually the reference is to a player from one group joining another for the idea of espionage, and/or to cause disention in the ranks of the group.

What you said is exactly correct. In a hypothetical form.

what is there to do that requires espionage? I mean...this isnt the military, there is no secret weapons, or intelligence that would give another team a big advantage? a spy really wouldnt do....anything at all. there is nothing to do. What are they going to do, meet you at the AO, and have a battle with you?

Haha I like playing airsoft and all...but what kind of wierdo would be that dedicated to his/her airsoft team in order to go thru the hassle just so they could win a few games? Sounds like the guy that wouldnt call their hits, try and use hot guns, and crap like that....not the people Id like to play with at all. Rick

A spy on an airsoft team??? That would probably make me force them to rethink their priorities, after a good ol' ass kicking like gixser said.

Kinda on the subject..at the 8th game..during an op scott put 3 dead players back in as traders or mercs against their own team. It didnt take long for them to sweep the field and eliminate their own teammates.
