This sucks
« on: February 08, 2005, 07:30:28 PM »
Well To make a long story short..I partitioned 2 backup hard drives of mine that have ALOT of VERY important data on them(No not porn you sick people). But I need to get atleast some of this data back. Does anyone know someone who has the equipment or can steer me in the direction where I can get some serious help?

I'll be honest. That's a tough one. Have you written anything onto the disk? Either by formating or installing or anything? If you haven't then don't. If you have ouch... that's even tougher. The people that do that for a living charge hundreds to thousands for that kind of work bc/they'd need to recover overwritten data (doable but holyjesus) which pretty much is out of the price range except for buinesses that need to recover critical info. Basically you'll need to find someone that does this for fun, and even then no promises to data recovered or timeframe. I haven't tried it myself, but I've done a good bit of looking into it, so while this isn't much help at least it's an idea. Good luck.

The question begs asking:

WHY?

Why mess with something that valuable to you?

If you have $30,000 worth of files on that hard drive that NEED to be recovered, I'd highly recommend a data recovery specialist.  It's not cheap, but at that cost of files it's a worthy expense.

Ahh, ok.  That does really suck then.  Beat up your friend and make him pay for the recovery =)

If you don't mind me inquiring, what kind of work files?  Modeling stuff?

Yes, but since my job doesnt pay like a normal one, and we dont really have 5k sitting around Im probably stuck where I am. And Kami, they are graphic skin files, models, beta codes, and some custom plugins for personal use.Argg this is such a pain in the ass.

Judging by those "skins" you provided pictures of awhile back, someone is paying you way too much money!

Like Nick said, beat his ass, and make him pay.
