Here's a sling David and I made.

It goes across both shoulders and attaches to the rear of your rig.  Its completely adjustable and ambidextrous.

It has a disconnect with a fastex buckle that floats on the sling and automatically centers itself when there is weight on it.

It attaches on to the back with long MALICE clips and has webbing on the front that you can place pouches over.  The adjustment is on the right side in the back.

The disconnect attaches to the weapon with a QD sling swivel, but could be made with whatever type of attachment is necessary.

I like it quite a bit so far.  It seems to distribute the weapon weight over both shoulders equally and since it attaches on the back, it might offset some of the weight of a hydration carrier or whatever you might have on your back.

I suppose this setup might even work attached to a belt, but I suspect it would not be as useful and comfortable as it is on a torso rig.

That sling looks good!  What type of Maruzen shotgun did you get there?  The pump or semi?  That stock you got on it looks neato...

That looks really convienient. Gives you quick access to you gun, and even if you want to point it some weird direction you can completly disconnect it without having to unwrap yourself from the whole sling...

...I think I would like to buy one of these...

That is a lot like the V-sling I came up with about 1-1.5 years ago, except for the "hooking to the back of the vest" connection...mine used the "D"-rings on the shoulders.

The only thing I might suggest would be to put a S/R buckle up in front to facilitate emergency release.  Though yours is big enough that it shouldn't need it, it might come in handy.  It was a requirement on a front opening vest like the MESA.  Yours wouldn't work on a MESA, SpecOps OverArmor or IBA given the lack of it 'opening up'

I think it would work, Tim, you'd just need to take more care when donning and doffing.  Of course, the weapons must not be attached when doing either.

That looks very nice, David and Matt.

My intent wasn't to be negative with their idea...I like it a lot.  The back attachment they've done distributes the load/weight of the gun much better than mine does, for sure.  My only issue is that, especially with a front opening vest like the MESA, it would be a pain in the ass to put on (IMO) without some sort of "opening" like I did with the V-sling...when I am trying to put on a 25 pound MESA, I don't want to have to 'be careful' donning or doffing.

What about an emergency where one needs to ditch their vest?  How careful can they / should they have to be?

Just my opinion on an otherwise great looking piece of gear.

I had the vest that it is on in the photos in mind when I thought how we should make the sling.

You' re completely right, Tim, and there are rigs that you could definately not use this sling with, like split front rigs or releasable vests.

As it is right now, you can ditch the weapon two ways - With the fastex buckle or the QD swivel. (Fastex is faster and easier)

I didn't want to put a release near the "front" area because that would mess with the way I set it up to be adjustable.  Again, it was made with the Spartan rig in mind.  Perhaps a fastex buckle could be made to serve as the adjustability (Due to the ladderlock qualities of it) and release point as well.

Food for thought, I suppose.
