We have to be strict on this topic because too many airballers wear patches they don't earn and it causes animosity between us and mil folks.

Airsoft is about honesty and having fun. Wearing rank, units, insignia you don't earn gives the sport a bad name.

I can understand how this can be a touchy subject, but isn't freedom of expression in our country one of the liberties that people in the military are fighting to preserve?  I will wear marine clothing simply because I have friends overseas fighting right now and it reminds me of the sacrifices they have made for our country.  It is definitely a sign of respect for them in my opinion.  I would have to agree though that leaving out specific units and ranks is a good idea.  To me that seems more like false advertisement.  Other's went through a lot to earn those rankings whereas just displaying a U.S. Army, or Marines patch shows more of a respect for all who have served in the military.  However if you want to avoid the argument all together, just find another patch that you like  :).

Yeah, we should keep this same friendly "policy", just to avoid conflict with those Mil types who may take offense.  If not simply for the sake of the game.

We all appreciate the sacrifices they've given.

i have a few patches that i'd like to wear just because they are from groups that i admire and would aspire to becoming.

Do or do not, there is no aspire.

Quote
i don't because of this exact issue.  Is there any consensus among the veterans how one could display admiration and pride for a specific branch/division/etc without claiming inclusion or service? It could be something as simple as wearing the patch sideways, or on the bottom of the shirt or sleeve instead of the shoulder, or chest.  Obviously you're not going to make everyone happy with any idea, but is there a way not to offend "most" while showing your support and idealizations?

Please do not ever let Firehead or I catch you with a sideways "All American" patch on the sleeve.  You want to show support?  Get a patch made up that says "82nd ABN Groupie!" or go join.

I really can't help but laugh at you guys who say you wear certain shit to show support.  You want to look cool, admit it.  There's nothing wrong with  that.  I wear what I wear because I like it.  I didn't wear a RAV to "show support" for the 75th Ranger Regt.  I did because I liked the vest.

If you really want to show support, wear a unit patch.  Wear rank, skill tabs whatever, but DO NOT, EVER wear it in public and/or try to convince people that you are in the military, or have earned shit you haven't.

And you'll never have to worry about a military guy getting sensitive about your outfit.  It takes a thick skin to do what we do.  More than likely, we'll just make fun of you.

Alot.

Publicly.

If you're going to wear my uniform, that my brothers have died wearing, for God's sake do not make an ass of yourself.

And you guys that aren't in the military, don't bother enforcing these rules.  We'll take care of it.

Ganef said it best, and that's the attitude I like to see regarding this.  You want to talk about supporting the troops?  He walks the walk.

I don't plan on acting dumb on the airsoft field (The only place I would where my BDU's) or say that I earned the stuff on my jacket. I just bought it cause I'm trying to look more realistic when I'm airsofting. And like azsarge said, "DO NOT, EVER wear it in public and/or try to convince people that you are in the military, or have earned s*** you haven't.
And you'll never have to worry about a military guy getting sensitive about your outfit." So really their is no problem. And again, I'm only 15 so people won't think I'm in the military when I'm not.

Well I think to sum it all up, it's your choice.  You don't have to listen to what these guys who have served/are serving say, as long as you recognize their point.  Do whatever you feel comfortable doing, and just be prepared to deal with whatever criticism you may take on the field.

Sorry for being new and asking instead of just doing.  And as far as my aspirations go, i couldn't pass the physical because of disabilities.  Thank you all the same for the insite that i should not aspire to uphold the same values and ideas of (in my opinion) the great men and women who are physically cappable of doing what i cannot.

Real quick before we get back on topic.

You can add me to the list of members that you don't wanna be a poser around.

If you wanna wear U.S. ARMY and really cool unit patches, tabs, badges, Give me a call 602-377-6322, As alot of people know around here I'm a Recruiting and Retention NCO for the Army National Guard.

I've got the Active Duty First Program now to I'll put you in the Active duty Army and you can earn your 82nd, 101, 3rd ID, 1st ID, 10th Mountian, Ranger, 58th Trans, 377th whatever patch, LEGIT. oh and you could end up with 60K bonus!

If your not willing to call me TAKE OFF THE PATCHES.

And as far as wearing the Marine Corps uniform, I don't care if you wear the MARPAT cammies, just don't wear the EGA or the U.S. MARINES name tape.

I will beat you to death myself bring you back and kill you again if you wear either of the above with out earning it.

The proudest day of my life was earning the right to claim the title Marine. I will never forget going up the REAPER and on the top my Drill Instructor, Drill Instructor SGT McGuire awared me my small Eagle Globe and Anchor and welcomed me aboard, It was then I knew that no matter were I went and no matter how it turned out every Marine was my brother I was then part of something larger then myself.

To this day when I hear the Marine Corps Hymn, or see the Eagle Globe and Anchor I still question if i deserve to be held to the same legacy, the same right to the title, as the Marines who charged across Belleau Wood, landed at Tarawa, raised the flag at Iwo Jima, endured the Chosin Reservoir, Marines like my father who held on for 77 days at Kha Sahn, and the Marines I served with, charging up through Kuwait towards Baghdad.

You wanna give your respect to a service member, say thank you.

You wanna wear MY uniform ENLIST.

Okay just my 2 cents. Please back to the subject.

After reading what Cpl. Keenan said you better just play it safe and not wear any of that stuff period.

You're probably going to be seen as a poser anyway if you do that. Mil-spec monkey has a bunch of cool patches that you could buy. They are usually done in various color schemes so you'll be able to find one that matches whatever you are wearing.

I thought I would introduce myself in style:

I don't tend to post Pictures but a broken leg and the utter boredom that follows during recovery allows me the time.

I resently purchased an SDS Warrior of ebay.  Looked like it had been to Iraq and back, the harness looked as though it had blood stains even.  Well I ditched that infavor of the Ops-Core X-harness. I also treated the helmet to several flavors of Brownells Alluma-Hyde II

1. Base coat of Desert Sand
2. Touches of Olive Drab
3. Patterns in Coyote Brown and FDE

Post paint

All dolled up

no NVG mount yet, no hurry as I don't have NOD's yet but I do plan on a Norotos style mount for the future and a set of Oregon Aero pads.

Hope you like
