I have some Magnum Phantom2s (that I got for free from Magnum for being cool like that) with like, good construction on the zipper, and it still failed.

I read about it, and it's the opinion of those more enlightened with better credentials than myself that sidezips are good for like, police patrolmen, and that's about it.

I appreciate you guys looking out for me but i just can ever get the feel for boots i have tried them going camping and i do a lot of hiking through tunnels and high adventure stuff. I really do appreciate it though guys.

seriously, its much safer, and NOTHING is more comfortable than a well worn in pair of boots. Running, climbing, whatever, it can all be done very well with a good boot. And for the love of pete put your elbows DOWN :lol:

I had a pair of Altamas that I wore the shit out of.  

They were so comfortable when I broke 'em in.

Then my PSG told me I couldn't wear them anymore because they were getting a little worn down.  Depression sunk in soon thereafter.

A comfortable pair of boots can't be beat for when you need the kind of support they can provide.

I volunteer with Phoenix Fire, and let me tell you the zipper is a blessing when you get a call in the middle of the night and you are groggy, disoriented, and have only 60 seconds to respond to dispatch and acknowledge the call.

But like I said, that's not airsofting.  My duties typically involve standing around, as opposed to hiking through rocky terrain.  I wouldn't wear these boots airsofting, but I absolutely love them for what I use them for.

You could always go with some lace-in boot zippers, though I've only seen them in black you may be able to find other colors.

P.s. An addendum to my post of the new rig.

I have Magpul PTS ranger plates on order, and need a little more spending money before i can get a water carrier for the back. Looking into upgrading radio equipment as well.

I removed the second triple panel on the right hand side and replaced it with a double by CT. I then added another double to the center. This keeps all my ammo more centralized, and lets my sport more CT gear  

I moved one magazine from the remaining triple panel and replaced it with a bb loader, placing the displaced magazine into the new double on the front. The result: equal ammo capacity with more central/left side ammo draw. The DOWN side is that it feels a bit fatter.




I might place the radio on the open slot left by the removed triple, this will let me get to it easier.

Ok I did not mean to start a topic on side zipper boots. I own a pair and they work fine for once a month airsofting. Will they break? More than likely but until then they work fine for what they do. They will probably break at the very top where I have noticed it gets stressed while moving. They included velcro to help but I doubt that little piece can support the force my legs are putting on them.

and you have the Converse boots dont ya? I do, they're VERY comfy. Worn them plenty and they haven't broken. When they do ill go with 511 or Danner, i think.

I'm going to hate the day that I have to replace my desert tan boots.  I've had them since I was issued them when I went to Kuwait in '99.  They are WELL broken in and comfortable.

They changed it to "tactical". The only problem with mine is that I ordered 1/2 a size too big. And I was to lazy to ship them back, they fit fine.

I bought them near the death of SWPB and used them last week. They still look and smell near new.

Took me 3 months to find this thing stateside, its not one of those Ebay ones. This was made in Germany and issued and a non X style top which are found on ebay.

Underneath is the snow camo and a "G" authentication stamp. Now to find a Tasmanian vest....also the converse boot in underneath.



This is about the only piece of rare/cool gear I have.

I would not buy side zip boots for anything important.

The zipper blows out, and you have a useless boot.

It can happen.  Had one pair and will never own another pair again.  The zipper broke near the ankle where it takes the most stress and at the time I didn't need to be worrying about a broken boot.  God I love 100mph tape, worked well for several days  

That was the only part that failed on the boot, the rest of the boot had a ton of life left on it, never again. They have their usefulness but wrong boot in my case.

Oh, when I get back from school I'll have 4 sets of ACU's M/R, M/R. for sale, all of them are well used. I'll sell 'em for 40 bucks a set.

i would have to agree with the Marine Corps boots, they got me through boot camp, MCT, MOS school.  I love mine to death. i don't have the steal toe ones to heavy in my opinion to do PT with.  But they work great and stay hella comfortable.  They don't fall apart either, they got through the crucible fine. the only problem is that they are expensive, especially the Danners i'm looking at right now damn near 200 dollars but will last for ever and are the most comfortable things I've ever worn. waiting on my uniform allowance.  

*side note, i want to get this off my shoulders, that kid is ruining my uniform....BLKKOUT or what ever.....kid please buy some boots and a cover! Also why does everyone cock out their elbow when shouldering a weapon?

I have the same cover on a replica helmet, except I have the older version with the OD on the other side, but genuine nonetheless.  They are meant for the German style kevlar helmets, but I find the older German helmets to not look so hot.  Their new ones with the IdZ get up are nice, but of course, to get one and to finance it would be more money then I would be willing to put into a Bundeswehr impression.  Its a lot easier doing general KSK lol.  

I had the TT (Tasmanian Tiger) chest rig I think you were referencing.  It was ok for G36s, I prefer a fully decked out webbing set than I did that.  Sorry though, I sold it before I moved here.  If you like chest rigs/vests, I guess it would be pretty nice.  If you are referring to another Tasmanian of some sort, then I guess it does not apply...
