I hate to say it, but there is NO shortage of dumb people in infantry.  If you're a smart guy you're going to find it a little frustrating, Wraith.  Even in electronics school at 29 stumps (presumably among the smarter Marines) I had fellow students complaining about "them fifty cent wurds Iza usin".

Did he just say "smarter marines?"  ;)

I mostly joined for the training.  Also, my farther was in the Navy.  Finally, I felt even if I didn't want to be a lifer I should at least make some of the sacrifice that others are making to maintian my freedom.

Today it seems like you are a lifer, even if you only sign up for 4-6 years.  A guy I work with got called up after being out of the military for 9 years.  Apparently officers have to resign their commision, or else they can be called up even after they are discharged.  Kinda shi*ty if you ask me.

Not just officers, anyone in special operations, and or in any of the other "critical" fields.

I have a friend who was involuntarily held 2 1/2 years past his ETS date and sent to iraq to boot. I also have several friends who have been held for less time, or have been recalled after having been out for like 1-3 years.

Believe me, it is something I am acutely aware of every day. I am just waiting for a "congratulations on your reuping letter to arrive, or worse, I know of at least one case where a firend came out of his house in the morning and their was a car waiting for him. (He speaks like 5 languages including everything you might need in the middle east)

Heh, heh, sounds like some people don't read all the papers that they sign. I distinctly remember one line of my contract stating that, once I get my commission I have five years plus four reserve PLUS can be called back to active service at "the pleasure of the Air Force" . Doesn't bother me right now, but, I know it might down the road unless I make the AF a 20+ year career.

I can't wait until someone calls me "Jarhead".   [smilie=armata_pdt_15.gif]

Seriously though, you're never too old or too stupid to be infantry. The infantry can find a job for anyone to do. How many 60 year old janitors are there?

My favorite uncle was Army Infantry.  He was a mine sweeper in nam.  We used to rag his old ass to no end about his job.  Of course it was pay back when I went into the Marines.

And he KNEW how to party.

God, I miss that old f'ker.

But he loved the Army.  Said he always liked it in the Navy better for the short time he was in that branch though, heh.

You know that the Marine Corps is a branch of the Navy right?

There's no end to the inter-service jokes that exist. I'm always going to be partial to my Corps (your Corps, our Corps). USMC is just so bad*ss.

Ok, enough thread-jacking.
