I know some of you guys on here like to take your trucks offroading. I figure it will give me something to do for the next year until I'm 18.

Anyways, heres my dilema. I have about $7000 to put towards a truck. I wanted something that could go through some of the areas we play at, and something that could be taken offroad for some weekend fun.

I origionally wanted a Jeep Cherokee, but something about a Nissan Pathfinder got me. My dad likes them, but I found some Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and am hoping to get one of those.

This is the problem, my dad things they are unreliable. I've riden in Gregs, and liked it. Ive heard these are actually more reliable than the pathfinders, and they are within my price range.

Does anyone have any information on either? I've been looking into it, and cant get a straight answer on which one is more reliable. I know the Jeep will have alot more power, which is another main factor.

Thanks guys!

I drive a stock 1989 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer.  It has 164,000 miles and still runs strong.  I deliver pizza in it.  This thing can take a beating.  The only thing I have bought for off-roading is all terrain tires, and while it could use a lift kit, it still performs very well -- I was able to keep up with the Tucson Rough Riders in their CJs, Wranglers and Rubicons, climbing rocks and such -- I've never had to get towed.  http://tirisfal.multigl.net/bensstuff/24.jpg

The 4L V6 is an incredibly powerful engine.  I just don't see the comparison with Nissan.  Maybe I could understand if you were asking about Jeep vs Toyota, but for 4 wheeling, Nissan shouldn't even be a consideration in my book.

If you want to go off road, I’d say jeep. Parts are usually easier to get and usually cheaper for cars made in the US. Also I'd recommend driving both, see how both feel, and maybe do some research and read some reviews from people who have owned them. I used the link below a couple of times, and found it useful.
