The slower BB guns put out 3-5 ft-lbs of energy.  You need to achieve 350fps/106m/s with a .177 BB in order for it to be considered dangerous.  That's over 4J of energy, about 3-4x what most airsoft guns shoot.  Considering this is for target BB guns, any BB/pellet gun meant for hunting needs considerably more energy to be lethal to small game.   Consider that one of the highest velocities capable on an airsoft gun is 600 fps on the WA-2000 (an extremely rare GAS gun).  Even at that, the energy output is only 3.3J.  You see where I'm going with this?  To acheive 3.3J with a spring is nigh on impossible and only high end sniper rifles are even capable of getting close, but you're looking to spend a ton of money even getting there.  To acheive a lethal terminal velocity with that muzzle veolcity, you'd have to do a point blank shot.  Why go to all this trouble when BB guns are readily obtainable and less of a hassle and already shooting hot enough?  I just don't get why you're arguing the lethality of an airsoft gun since it's such a a rarity/improbability and not as simple as "some idiot loading copper BB's".  If we're gonna talk sheer possibility here, it's probably more likely you'll get struck by lightning in the field or impale yourself on your gun.  And real steel at an airsoft game is a completely unrelated issue since 99% of the time we chrono beforehand.  If someone is so intent on harming people, airsoft is more of a hassle than its worth.  Are you trying to argue how lethal airsoft is?

Yeah, i'm aware of that, and it kind of contradicts the point i'm making. But hey i'm honest about it. :)

I shoot from inside a shed tho so it's pretty low profile.

Lol... what does that prove?  A $5000 vulcan hardly counts as an airsoft gun.   If you check their site, you'll see that version is for plinking (their airsoft version shoots 460 fps with regular airsoft BBs, still painful, but not deadly). Comparably, a $50 air rifle used for plinking can be just as lethal.

I agree Las that airsoft guns should be handled and treated like weaponry, but I don't think the worst case scenario is the best way to make that argument.  I think the regulations we have in place are more than enough as is.  In the case of this specific law, they went too far.  The wielding of guns or lookalikes is already legislated.  Punish the kid, but don't do a knee-jerk making airsoft illegal (which they quickly remedied).

You mean Airguns of Arizona...yeah it's a little brown house down the street from Joe's real BBQ. It has a pretty cool selection and all. I'm tired and a bit slow on the intake today..sorry.

That sounds very irresponsible, I would highly suggest you not brandish any airsoft guns in public.  No matter what your neighbors think, it takes one cop driving by to see kids shooting each other for him to take you down and give airsoft a bad rep for all of us.  Please do not continue playing around your neighborhood, take it out of the city or to a designated place.

look, where I live in Gilbert, the only cops that drive by are the cops thats kids are shooting with us. So I guess it's probably not the biggest deal to me. And the other problem is none of us are old enough to drive,so we can't drive out of town limits, which I don't even know where they are. But we do keep it low profile. One or two games a week in different spots at different times. There's not much else to do. And don't suggest not airsofting because there is NOTHING else to do in my neighborhood.

Why, does it hurt you in any way? Does it hurt anything of your's? No, and it more than likely never will, so why do you get so pissy?

It is against the law...that is why. It has nothing to do with the maturity aspect. If you, and your friends want to go with your parents somewhere outisde of city limits on property or land where it is legal to play, then do it, and be safe. Otherwise don't do it, the stuff you guys are doing is what's killing airsoft and giving it a bad rep.

+1 bustas right One reason people dont like us minor's is because of people like you who do it on public property. Why dont you ask your parents to drive you .

I'm not trying to promote what they're doing in any way, (I agree with busta) but I just thought I'd point out that maybe their parents are like everyone I know that can drive (since I can't drive yet) and don't really want to drive people all the way out of town just so they can shoot each other?

Just thought I'd point it out...

PS: As a side note, just for future reference for everyone: Apperently, wearing camo at night in public is a bad idea in certain areas...  If you really want to hear the full story, PM me. ;)
