Yeah, I fly.  No way you're going to see a Blackhawk at a game anytime in the near future, though.

Using aircraft for airsoft is ridiculous and unsafe, unless it's some sort of Helicopter used for infil/exfil with AEGs completely safed (ie no mag, no batteries).

Well, I for one used to play paintball, and have on 3 occassions, been part of a "Big Game" where I was part of the renegade element.
On all three occasions a Bell Jetranger was used, and we had the doors off. We piled in and dusted off. At one place in Oregon, the pilot was ex-nam vet who flew in low over the trees and did some wild NOE (Nap of the Earth) flying, sitting us down at the LZ.
On the other two occasions we flew over the A/O and shot at ANYTHING that moved-WHILE IN FLIGHT!
The paintballs were NOT effects by the rotor wash, but accuracy was SHIT!
On the ground at the Oregon game, I can tell you I came uner attack from the helo later in that game. It added to the effect.
Mooncruiser was at this same game, and when the helo tried to shoot at him, he ran in circles and gave it Moonshots!
Hell they even ad some Reservists in a humvee rolling around shooting at anyone and anything.
Ol Mooncruiser blasted the windshield so bad they stopped, and he ran up onto the hood, and stuffed his gun into the gunners hatch, and got those turds to surennder-I saw it-I got pictures!

So anything one does to take the game to the next level, makes for more excitement.

quote]I just don't think it's a good idea. R/C planes with cameras are OK, a la UAV, but I don't like the idea of a dude flying over me in something he built himself.
Lol let me find some pics of this stuff. ROV/UAVS&r/c same damn things all unmanned aircraft.
img][/img]

This is that I'am talking about. a 5mi range on the transmitter. also I know what I'am doing . I've flown my plane the one in the pic for over 2hrs. an overpowered O.S. FX 46 2 stroke engine. Flew the thing over unused fair grounds, Hell your telling me I can fly this puppie over long ass distances. it was make from a kit!
The R/c gliders are very safe. You can even catch the thing. its so slow. or the dumb electic powered version.

this SO CAlled junk is made in the states.![/img]

If any of you goof balls wants to look at some sick stuff here it is. LOOK close thats what happened to me when i was workin on some thing ie. prop. So dont piss me off an tell me your going after my fingers. I really dont want to watch the thing grow back in 10months.

Isnt it Map of the Earth?

Andy, relax. If they want to do it, fine with me. If there was a game big enough for it (I'm talking huge) I could understand it. Were talking 400+ people.

While it would be cool to do something like that in a REAL helicopter like you mentioned, flown by a VERY GOOD pilot like my dad or cmptrdewd's dad, we've pretty much figured out that the price on this deal would be ridiculous... more than any of us have ever spent on airsoft...

????????PRICE????????
The price was FREE~!
Seems the folks running the game's had Pal who owned and flew a helo.
I forgot to mention at the one game, the field owner began the game by doing a helo repel into the parking lot to give the pre-game breif!

At all the places the Helo ran off and on all day.
Like I said the guy in Oregon was dognut, you would hear the helo, and it would zoom overhead with people shooting at you!

Also, although the basic use was for insertion behind enemy lines, we did manage to scope out where the enemies were at on the way in, so recon use would be effective.
Even if you just had someone fly over the A/O woth a radio-he could effectivly report location and movement.

Foot the bill? Me? No.

I dont know how they arranged the flights. It wasnt my gig to plan the events.
I just showed up and that is what they were doing.
I got to get the rides, as I was doing magazine coverage for either Action Pursuit games or Paintcheck magazines.
As I said, I think the folks running the game, had people they knew who had the helo, knew how to fly it, and just plain wanted to fly.

At any rate-it made for a cool experiance.

A recon UAV would be a good idea.  Faster intel gathering capabilities.  But like Greg pointed out controlling one over a large area might prove difficult.  A powered-para glider would work better, as the pilot is in the "aircraft".

I don't know about ultralights, but a powered parachute/glider is very safe.  If the engine fails the chute would just glide you back to earth as a parachute does normally.  But as far as using one in a game for recon... it would only be useful in a very large game (like Op:LC4) and facilitate the need for another set of control and organization that the staff would need to take care of - and for those of us that attended LC4 we saw how stretched the UN people were.  Not saying it can't happen, I just think it would take a lot more organizing to put into action at a large game/event, just like in real life.

If you saw my pics that I posted, thats my UAV. currently in pieces. so it will be useful but safety is a large factor here. Being stupid I lost you know *look at pic* that sucked. I never want to live though that junk again. So its gonna take some planning.

Thank you to Airsofter and 1 Trooper, you made my point.

I would NEVER allow anything unsafe to happen in a game, or anywhere involving my PPC. I understand the perception many people have about ultralights, but most accidents happen to pilots who do aerobatics -pushing the aircraft into situations it wasn't structially designed for, or flying with untested equipment.

PPC's have the best safety record of anything that flies, something I took into account when  I bought one. It's my fanny in the seat up there, and people who know me also know I don't take foolish risks.

In any event, I wouldn't fly over a game unless it was with the okay of everyone there. I brought up this thread to talk about the possibilities, and limitations, too.

Currently, Powered Parachutes are being studied by the military as recon aircraft. They tend to be invisible to radar. There's one that consists of a 'chute with a quad beneath.. Imagine that.

R/C gliders are very safe. This would add to the milsim aspect, for those into that. A ROV would add a neat twist to a large game like the one being discussed in the scenario thread right now.

I think we're getting a little too high tech here.  I can't really see any uses for a UAV, we've all got radios just use them.

Keep the sport simple, it takes long enough to get people to shut up and load mags to start the game let alone adding in more complex elements to the game.

I applaud your enthusiasm Mooncruiser. Your thinking about our sport. I would like to see an ARGON(however its spelled) before I would an Drone or Helo drop. Lets keep the fight on the ground for now

I know all to well the power of our Air Force. My Dad did 28 years 16 as a NCO(MSGT) and finished off as a Captain.. He can thank Mr. Clinton on his cut backs(didnt want him to get his 30)

But lets keep Airsoft Fun. I know all it takes is one well placed bomb/rocket from a plane or a volley of Rds from a gunship..
