Should all teams....
« on: June 28, 2005, 02:27:32 PM »
I have been thinking, I know a dangerous habit, that since Tucson is now strating to get quite a few airsoft teams building up that maybe all teams should adopt a set group of rules. If this is done then there is no confusion in the rules.

The rules between some teams has been very confusing, some play with ricorchets counting as hits, others don't count hits to the hands or feet. If a designated set of rules can be adopted by players then there will be no confusion.

I understand that everyone wants to have thier own little bit added to the rules to make them better but I think if each team uses the same set of rules it will eliminate alot of problems.

Frankly, I think everyone should use the AA rules.  It's a good standard to go by and causes less issues when you go to AA sponsored games.

Only thing I think needs to be changed is the FPS limit on CQB games, but otherwise they're a good set of rules.  :)

All rules should be explained at the start of games:

1) For safety (and liability purposes)
2) So everybody is on the same page
3) Every AO is a little different with different hazards.

Questions should come up at the briefing (i.e. richocets).

On this topic, it would also be nice to even out teams.  Too often one team dominates another for various reasons (more players, weapons suited for the AO) which is great for the winning team, but NOBODY likes to get leveled.  Maybe request whomever has both types of BDU's to bring both sets.  I have no problem having a game of 5 to 15 if it evens up the skill levels.  Some players have more experience, than others.  Make the game more competitve.

Now that is messed up.
That's what I mean. If there is a standard set of rules that each team adopts in it's whole then there is no reason that incidents like that should happen.

God, that borders on dis-honorable play.

Rules should be explained at the beginning of every game if they aren't already known.

I am against a set of UNIVERSAL rules, because it will lead down a road which we shall not travel.

As for "milsim" rules, some real life things must be adapted for our weak weapons.

In the middle of the fight, I can't always tell if the round hit me from where or why.

I feel it, I just call myself out and exit the area. K.I.S.S.

I think that's the only honorable thing to do.

I like the AA rules. The ONLY thing I dont like is that if you get hit in your gear.. it counts.. I mean what if im wearing a pack like a backpack or something of that size.. and it gets hit from the side? Thats just another reason why I dont like to have on alot of gear. But that rule is in place to get rid of any confusion in games. I like the rules.

If you get hit in the hand or foot..why wouldn't you call it? That would be a stupid rule not to have it count. I remember the AA rule(I think) being you couldnt use that hand or foot...And if you get hit in the weapon, you cant use that weapon.

BOS uses the AA rules as our standard....figure it's easier to be ready for the time we actually make it up to an AA game....I think the only thing we don't follow is the FPS limits

We don't count hands and feet because those wouldn't be critical hits with real guns.  We play by the rules of the host when we join gams that aren't ours, however.

You should....that is a critical hit...If you get shot in the hand...You wont be doing much with that hand...atleast play wounding rules.

I agree with the points raised here.

I think it's the responsibility of the host to have the rules printed and available at the game so there aren't any issues.

But at the same time I have no problem with people taking their OWN hits based on their own rules. IE. if you think a ricochet shouldn't kill you don't take it, it's a questionable enough rule. It's only when people think their specific rules should apply to hits made on ME that I think folks need to relax.

Remember, we're all out there to have FUN, and arguing over the game is not fun. (Least, not to me) which is why you'll sometimes see me sit out a round or two (And why I didn't play while my truck was stuck at the pistol game) because if I bring my crappy attitude into the game that's MY mistake.

The same goes for rules calls.

The ricorchet rule is one that has caused some problems in the past, a game in the long gone past, a guy I know was accused of ghosting shots but it turned out they were ricorchets and his group didn't use the ricorchets count rule. It caused a little bit of a disturbance about it.

Personally I think the idea of ricorchets not counting is good. Sometimes it is very difficult to tell if a ricorchet would actually happen the way it does in airsoft, therefore would it actually be a kill or not?

I've been hit by ricochets and called them, I get hit by a BB coming in at a 60 degree angle, I call it, hiding behind a bush and one (golden) BB gets through after clipping 4 twigs on its way through I call it.  I don't know how people on the field can quickly decide that I shot was a direct or ricochet.  Bottom line, when in doubt call yourself out!!  The game is about honor, nothing made me happer as a player as when Raven (Hector) shot me in Florence, came down the hill on my way off the field and told me that I got him at the same time, so we'd call a 'parle'.  He could have stayed up there and not said anything, but now I have the highest respect for him!  Always call yourself out when hit, its easier to explain to your teammates that you weren't sure than to the opposing team why you didn't.

Also I hate the term "light somebody up" (seen it on LC4 forums).  People always say that they shot somebody, they didn't call it so they emptied a mag the next time.  I think thats bullsh1t!  I'm also glad I've never seen it happen at any arizona games!
