Death Rags
« on: July 05, 2005, 07:43:18 PM »
At most games I've been too, hardley anybody brings death rags or if they do they don't bring them on the field.

At LC4 there were some 'incidents' because of players forgetting their death rags, at some local events players have bitched about being shot twice while walking off the field, or the opposing team has had to ask "are you dead".  Personally its bugged the heck out of me, because I've hesitated to shoot somebody, or needlessly stalked somebody walking off the field who is already dead.

There are two solutions to this problem:

1) Shoot anybody not wearing a death rag even if you think they might already be dead, just to make sure and cover your a$$.

2) Organizers of events make sure every player has one at the start of the game or they can't play.

I hate #1 because it causes arguements, but if you remember your AEG, BB's, Gas, etc. you should remember your 'red rag' as part of your field gear.  #2 can be a problem because no doubt somebody will forget it and not be able to play.

The next event I hear somebody yell "I'm already dead" after they get shot while walking off the field, is going to get a loud "ya where's your death rag" from my side.

Anybody else have any solutions to this problem?

Bring one. And organizers should bring spares.

I wouldn't wanna bring spares for anybody, I don't bring spare BB's, Gas, mags for other people, so why should I be burdened with bringing a bag of rags?

Yeah, I see your point. But you would want everyone to be able to play. Just be sure you get the rags back at the end. (smiley)

We had the same problem in swordfights, but it was because people wouldn't wear them to tell the teams apart.

My solution?

Felt, Red felt.

Cut it into strips and it's tough as nails, cheap as dirt for a yard or two.

I'll bring the 20 or so pieces I have to the Pistol only op and pass them out.

Hmm not bad. But for the pistol only game, the AO is so small I just walk with my hands up, and my gun holstered until I'm off the field.

Thats what I've been doing as well, for that specific game I think there is no question who is dead and who is not.

Yeah. Actually in Prescott two weeks ago, I was in the process of getting my rag out, after having been hit, when another guy opened up on me, I had to yell "HIT" three times before he new I was dead. Oh well, I couldn't fault him, I didn't have it out yet.

I like my red grease rag from my shop, also cheap as dirt and come in big bags already cut in correct sizes and can be cut even more to accomidate the player who forgot his/hers. I sewed a loop of para cord in the corner for quick retrieval.

I meant i'll pass them out so people can keep them for other ops.

Red felt is like 5$ for a square yard. I'll be happy to donate some.

Yep, I used to go out and fight with Bamboo Shinai or Steel Rapier at SCA. But egos got a little too big, things got nasty a few times, just didn't feel right. Too much potential to get hurt, plus they were allowing kids that couldn't have been older then 12 onto the field.
