Over There

anyone planning on watching that show called Over There? Its on FX at 2200 tonight. Its supposed to be about soldiers in the middle east and stuff like that. I dont know a whole lot about it, but it looks like a pretty good show. We'll have to see....

I saw it, I thought it was ok - it's about a group of soldiers deployed in Iraq. I don't think it was done as well as say, Band of Brothers, but I've only seen one episode so I can't tell so far.

I'm not sure if it's based on a true story or not, my guess is it isn't tho...

I just finished watching it, and I can't say I liked it too much.

It seemed like there was no real sense of where they were or what they were doing or when it was supposed to be.

For those of you that have seen it, I thought the M203 part was laughable.

I figured the confusion of the show was simulating the confusion of combat...

I quickly gave up that assumption and said, "WTF?"

I believe they got off to a bad start if they're just gonna continue on from this point.  More background is needed of when they got there and where in Iraq they are.

Other than that Sergeant "Scream" and the action made it okay.

And yes, the "walking legs" scene was laughable.

I thought overall it was pretty good and will continue to follow it.
Things I didn't like was their squad leader was a dick, I've heard some bad stories, but that guy was just a plain jackass.
The m203 scene wasn't that bad, it was in slow-mo, maybe thats why it appeared they were walking for so long. Also, after the convoy accident, they were air lifted by a huey? Didn't they get taken out of service after Vietnam?

"Scream" isn't a dick. He just doesn't like babysitting rookies who wanna get out there into the shit. That gets people killed.

Hueys are still in service, but only in the USMC. And even then, they are grey, not green.

I work at this "small Army base", and the only hueys I see on the flightline right now are Marine birds.  "Used to" is right, we haven't had them for 10 years.

There ARE still Hueys in service in the Army, but they aren't being used in Iraq AFAIK.  They are used as transports, support birds for other aircraft, and for firefighting (BAMBI bucket).  The Marine Hueys are not the same, they have 2 engines, are painted grey, and often times have FLIR turrets on the nose.

My guess is that the Army said "No, you cannot have a Blackhawk for your dumbass TV show."

And, since I have not seen it, would someone like to describe this M203 scene to me?

Hmm.  

Well, I've never heard of anything like that, but I'm not qualified to say it's not possible.

My guess is that it was based on Hollywood sh*t, and not an actual event.
