Been pulled over with your AEG?
« on: July 29, 2005, 02:17:06 PM »
Just curious if anyone has been pulled over with their AEG in the car with them and questioned by the police?  Any interesting stories?
Thanks,
Sinjin

Dude..

How in gods name would that happen?

"That guy has an AEG in his trunk, lets pull him over!"

I won't think of any moron that points them out the window. Why.. do you?

Awesome thread.

I figured most people would understand what I meant by "pulled over".  Meaning you were driving to or from an Airsoft event and your car happened to be searched (for whatever reason) or it was visible in the back seat and was questioned about it. That's all.   Pretty unreasonable for you to to jump all over me for asking a simple question and seeing if there where any interesting stories.  My apologies for trying to spark up conversation.

Well, I think everyones a little sensative on the Police + Airsoft issue.

And I SERIOUSLY doubt that's ever happened. Closest to that I've heard, is my friend got a flat tire, and he had an airgun (not airsoft) on the floor. The cop saw it, my friend saw the cops face, and shouted "That's an airgun!!!" And the cop just said "Gotcha" and helped him change the tire.

I have been pulled over while on my way to an event. I was hosting the game, and had to pick up a couple people. I was running a little late and was pulled over for speeding. There were about 3 gun cases, a super 9 springer, and an assortment of pistols, most of which were in plain view. I was mad about getting pulled over and didnt even think about the guns, but somehow the cop didnt see them or didnt mention it. I guess we got lucky.

It should never really be an issue if you have your AEGs in a gun case/bag.  It would be the same for real weapons too.  Its always a good idea to make sure you have a gun case or bag to put that airsoft replica into when transporting it.

Best thing to do is to leave them in your trunk.  That way it is not seen until you plan on using them. Also I would treat an airsoft gun as a real weapon, meaning I would not place a GBB under my seat.  That would be considered concealed and accessable. Just use a little bit of judgement and you shouldnt be in any uncomfortable situation.

I wasn't there, but one of the local groups was playing and the cops showed up to check things out. The cops ended up playing with the AEG's for a while and no problems since.  Always treat an airsoft weapon exactly like a real weapon - the legal consequences are the same.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I was a little worried since I drive a Jeep hence no trunk to put it in.  I've been looking for a lockable hard travel case similiar to this one...

I have had no problem finding soft cases, any links and/or recommendations for hard would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Again,

Get pulled over, keep both hands either on the steering wheel or in plain sight like on the door frame.

Tell the cop that you have something in the car that can be seen as a firearm. Wait for instructions.

Usually the first thing I hear from a cop is "You have any weapons in there or anything like that?" Head off a ticklish situation by announcing your intentions first.

Awesome thread.

He said "pulled over with an AEG in their car", not pulled over for HAVING and AEG in their car.

If you're going to bash a thread, at least understand what it's about beforehand.  Don't be cranky cuz you got the MultiCam blues, bro!  :P

I haven't been pulled over, but I've seen police checking out my stash of gear in the backseat and getting eyes like pies.  I remember one Monday, after a weekend game (and I didn't empty all my gear out of the car) I pulled up to the front gate at work.  The MPs checked my backseat and asked if I was getting deployed anytime soon.  I am, so I said "in a few months".  I didn't realize until later that he was commenting on my horde of cordura in the backseat!

If you did get pulled over by a cop and had an airsoft gun in the car with you, the best thing to do would probably be to come right out and tell them you have one, it's not real, and it's located in the bag on the backseat, in the trunk, etc.  Had a cop tell me once about that, if you ever have anything that could be seen as a weapon and you're pulled over, let them know right away.

Who were the people in Avondale who were arguing outside their house and had AEG's. I heard from one of the officers they could have been shot.
