Sniper FPS idea
« on: October 07, 2005, 08:47:10 PM »
I've been thinking the past few days.  Not sure if it would work with a springer or Aeg, but should on a gas rifle.  My idea is to test  with a KJW m700 bolt action.  which I think with green gas clocks somehere between 380-450fps range wise.  That if I took a round of ammo, but instead of loading via the magazine well, ramrodded it down the muzzle carefully with the bb round sheathed in a tissue paper-napkin style thickness cloth...In theory this should increase the fps/distance for a single shot due to less gas escaping past the patched ball than what normally does....well that's how it works on a real blackpowder muzzleloader anyhow.  Has anyone tried this before? I'm curious what affect it will have

If you do that, you might have to pick pot metal outta your face.

Gas under pressure.. weak metals and plastic.. I wouldn't try it.

Or Better yet just get an inner barrel!!! Ya think of this, its cheap, efficient, and quiet. Take a inner barrel and use it like a blow gun!!! No gas!!! No mags!!!  No upgrades!!! No Repairs!!! Very quiet!!! Cheap!! Works every time!!! Low Maintenance, and very Light!!!

Get Your inner barrel today!!!

It would shoot, but you would not gain any distance. Infact you would loose distance. In todays blackpower, you have rifling that spins the ball so it travels farther and straighter.  In the airsoft gun bb's get a back spin placed on them inorder to simulate rifling.  The back spin on the bb allows the bb to stay in the air longer and thus travel farther.  If you do as you suggest, you would be placing the bb after the hop up unit and thus you would not get any back spin on the bb.  The bb will fall short and any slightly extra fps you get out of the patch will be so slight that it could not make up for the loss of backspin on the bb. Also I would not try to force the bb through the barrel and behind the hopup unit as you can severly damage your hopup.

Though your idea may work great for a civil war "reinactment", no hop up and the loading factor would work.  But I dont know of many people in the civil war using an M700 : )

Actually The loss of fps would not be mainly due to no hop up, but the friction created between the tissue and the wall of the inner barrel. When a bb is shot out of a barrel, it is 100% free from friction because it never actually touches the wall of the inner barrel. The bb quite literally rides inside a cushion of air in the minute space between the  barrel and the and the surface of the bb. This is why such a lighweight projectile is able to be shot out with such a small amount of air pressure, because it has virtually no friction between it and the barrel. In guns that do require wads to seal the gasses, the friction is totally overcome by the force of the propelling gasses. For example about 5000psi in the barrel of a shotgun, opposed to maybe 90psi in an airsoft gas gun.

Hey all, look, I had an idea and wanted advice pertaining to it. I didn't seek flames or derogatory comments.  Thankyou very much for those who have given me some good advice on this.  My rule of thumb is "if you can't say something positive/constructive...don't say anything at all"  I wish more adhered to that.  I may be incorrect, if so I apologize in advance, but a few post responses on my thread seem amight unfriendly.

Again, no intent to step on anyones toes, I'm here to make friends, and learn more about the sport I enjoy playing.

Dosen't the KJW m700 clock over 500 with green gas? I remember I had this conversation with both nil8r and jockjoamo, they said that it was way too hot with green gas. I think you have the right idea when talking about a real firearm but you also have to consider what happens to the hop up, you may gain a minimal fps(in theory) but you lose the spin that your hop up puts on the bb therefore limiting your range.

I wouldnt worry about those posts. It's an infection that pops up every now and then.  But after all it is only their opinion how ever they choose to state it. Heck even John Lu was told he was crazy for trying to starting the LC series.  Now look at where he's at.  Though, those of us with more knowledge on airsoft know that the muzzel loading idea won't fly to well. And I think that's what they were trying to say so "poetically" as they did  ;)

New ideas are welcome, just be prepared for those few who tell you exactly what they think  :)

Exactly my point!

You see, your question was a bit off-the-wall, but it was a genuine question at that.

I don't see why you shouldn't recieve a solid answer either way.

To those who offered good advice - keep it up.  That's what will make this forum thrive as a great informational source.

To those who offered negative snetiments, the days in which you can get away with that sh*t are numbered.
