I have tried all of the supplements out there and have spent hundreds if not close to $1000 (in company money, HA) to find the good stuff. Best tasting shake with the best balance of vitamins and B12 complexes and 40 grams of pure Ionic protein (that means if you have just the protein it blends in clear in water, you can't even see it in the water once blended) is "ISO Pure." Best in the morning due to it's kick ass Energy Drink like pick me up. Best taste is with Soy Milk or non fat milk and since it is derived from organic soy it tastes great. You can even mix it with whole fruit or fruit juice for a smoothie version.
For protein bars the "Detour" bars made by Designer Whey are The Best Tasting Bars Hands Down! They taste like a "Snickers" bar and have 42 grams of protein. You will be amazed to find that you actually feel full after eating this bar! It's Crack in the form of protein, it's that good!
Liquid Vitamins are the best due to their high absorbtion rate, Cal / Mag or a calcium and magnesium supplement is recommended as well since the rebuilding muscles require high levels of calcium and will help you sleep as well. The magnesium works in conjuction with the calcium.
When trying to lean out cardio work outs are best in the morning since your body is going off of an 8 hour fast. To begin with a minimum of 20 minutes of variying degrees of difficulty for the cardio. Work up to more time in natural progession in 2 week intervals. When building muscle mass evening work outs are best followed by another 20 minutes of cardio to promote flexibility and blood flow. Plus you go to sleep several hours later allowing the muscles to rest and rebuild.
Bottom line if you want to lose weight you Must do cardio work outs, running, bicycling, elipticals, cross country etc. Same for bulking up you have to work the muscle groups to get them bigger. To achieve either goal you need to adjust your diet to fuel the machine to run that specific course!
