Good to see more companies moving towards making higher quality AEG's.

I have mixed feelings about these STAR AEGs.

On one hand, they are very inexpensive compared to other brands, and have innovative new features.

On the other hand, they are plastic, and from experience I'm guessing they won't be as durable in the field as a Classic Army AEG or a fully upgraded (externally) Marui gun.

Time will tell, though, and those M14s look very nice!

It'd be kinda stupid for them to make metal G36s, though...

From what I've gathered, they will be almost entirely plastic, even the barrels.

Does anyone know if that's true?

From what I've been told... what should be metal, will be metal.

But on which AEGs?

They advertise the SAW as being mostly plastic, so that cannot be the case there.

Perhaps with the G36/SL8/SL9/etc, but they are mostly plastic anyway.

The M249 was intended to be cheap.  TOP & CA's are $950+, STAR went ahead an made one that's cheaper and lighter.  Why lighter, I'm not sure, but they wanted them to be ~$500 (obviously some companies took advantage of the low production amount and jacked the price up).

Wow. I am in love with that SL-8. I think I might have to ditch my GR-16. Does anyone know where to buy these?

They're not out yet, the MSRP hasn't even been stated yet.

From what I can tell, with the exception of their M29's, on all of their stuff, what should be metal is, what should be plastic is.  Which explains the $800 (approximate) price tag on the M14 SOPMOD. As well as the $750 tag for the L85's. :/

But that SL-9 is looking pretty... I need to ditch a few guns too. :D

Excuse me, I'll correct myself... (According to Zero One) the Star L85A2 and L85A2 Carbine, when released, will be $748.30 USD.  While I'm at it, I might as well correct myself on the M14 SOPMOD (oops). According to Zero One, the M14 is currently $614.67 USD. (Don't ask me where I got $800. I think the price went down, actually...)

Thanks for making me look it up though. ;)

[edit] Correction #2: I was just looking at the SL-9 again on Star's site, so I decided to take a quick look at the L85, and what do you know... It does say $630 USD MSRP... That's not too bad of a profit for Zero One. heh...

Zero One is "The Only" retailer to carry STAR products, so they rip you off.   Just wait/hope ASGI or AEX gets these guns in.

The SL-9 is $600 at Precision Airsoft.

http://www.precisionairsoft.com/item1258.htm

But that is the kit and a mauri G36C.

Hopefully the "pre-built" SL-9 will be cheaper.
