Thats a good attitude to have.  My recommendation was based off the assumption that you were just looking for *anything* under $50 that would hold some clips n' stuff.  At least you have realistic expectations for that gear.

For 25 bucks, even though it sucks and will fail, you've lost mere pocketchange.

If you absolutely can't spend more than 50 bucks, it seems to be your only option for a complete rig.

I'm still of the mindset that no one needs gear fast enough that they can't wait, save, and spend a bit more on something that will last.

I never bought knock-off load bearing gear, ever.  My first piece of kit for airsoft was an LBT chest rig.  I decided that my money was worth more than time, and didn't use anything until I could have good gear.  When it came time for me to move on, I sold it for what I paid originally.

That can't be done with ghetto gear.  But, do what you want.

You have the opinions, now what's it gonna be, boss?

edit:  FWIW, I was a year younger than you are now when I bought that gear.

Would the waist pouches fit AK mags?  The straps look adjustable so I am assuming it could.  This rig is made from 1000 Denier Nylon, It has a water hydration pack holster, numerous smaller pouches for items(Radio, Flashlight).  It has the 6 waist pouches which can fit 3 30 round mags(And I am assuming it can hold AK Style).  Inside of the jacket is a pistol holster along with some more pouches(Pistol mags etc.)  Adjustable straps to fit any size.

Thoughts?

Ludo.Kressh I have an AK rig that I got from Russian combat gear .com  Also try redsolder!!! Grad-2 Gunner or grad-1. I own a grad-1!!! If you will be at the game on the 10th you can see it. it has all you will ever need if you just want a Russian rig that can hold everything, and last. Also wont put a dent in you wallet.

Those Israeli rigs are very nicely made.

They are the heat if you happen to have exactly all the pieces of kit those pouches are made for.

If not, go modular.

I just dropped a few more bills on an Eagle Rhodesian rig tonight.  Yeah, I know, I already had one.  But hey, it's great kit and I'll put it to good use!  After a call to Eagle Industries, and a visit to Coyote Tactical, I'll have a rig set-up specifically for the items I'd like to carry, down to maps, frags, and the correct number of rifle and pistol mags.

You can't get that from a non-modular Israeli rig.

Also, they are large and quite heavy.

I do not think those mag pouches would fit AK mags without them being open top. If you are going to drop some coin, it had better say "made for holding AK mags." There is nothing worse then buying something that is wrong for what you need and then trying to sell it especially if it is some shitty gear that nobody will buy.

Personally, I wouldn't friggin buy ANYTHING from an asian country on ebay.  I've personally had bad experiences with that, and I've heard of many other people as well.  If you want a vest that will carry your stuff well, I'd look at Jungletoy.  I have a chest rig from there, pretty good quality.  Nothing fancy, but it does exactly what I want it to.  See if they have a vest that would fit AK mags.  Don't be intimidated by the 'legit' guys that spend $800 on a flippin vest.  There's no sense in it.

Ghostsequel, where do you think the Jungle Toy vests come from?

I was actually referring to asian sellers on ebay in particular, not just gear from asia.  I'm sure they produce plenty of quality stuff, I just have heard too many horror stories about asian ebay sellers.

Ludo, Platinum Sky has a great point.  The AK is a Russian made weapon...why not buy Russian-style gear that's designed for it?

Roger that.  Someone else I know bought some replica gear on ebay and it was less than par for the course.  I guess I got lucky myself though as I bought a replica maratime CIRAS from HK and its pretty nice especially considering what I paid.

Everyone take note though - If you buy quality name brand gear and stay away from the cheap knock offs, you won't be disappointed.

I dont think the material would be your concern. From what I'm gathering, if they use crappy thread, your problem lies in the vest literally falling apart.

The 1000dernier is a gradient scale of the size of thread used to weave the material together. Cordura is the brand name of the specific type of Nylon used. Lots of companies trya and pass off a bunch of lower grade nylon e.g. "nytaneon", "codra" and the like as Cordura. None of those are as wear resistant as legit cordura brand is. There are many strengths of cordura all based on the dernier system. www.cordura.com

I ran across this vest yesterday.

It is made from Cordura Nylon.  It is modular(I think it is MOLLE?)  It has 2 Ammo Pouches which it specifically says can fit 3 Russian Mags each.  It has 4 Large General Purpose pouches, which can hold pretty much anything ranging from 5-6 mags, a box mag or w/e I need in there.  It also has a utility/first aid pouch(I could put a radio etc. in there.)

Inside of the tact vest is a pistol pouch with some other utility pouches.

Since it is modular it has room for other misc. pouches, and of course a hydration pack pouch on the back.

It comes with a smaller belt, but has room for a webbing belt as well.

It's either this rig, or the one with the built in pouches(Still asking if the pouches can fit AK mags) that will be my final purchase.

My opinion would be to go for this one if choosing from this and the first vest you showed us.  This looks sturdier (I'm no gear expert, and I'm just basing that on what I can see).  You know it can hold AK mags, and it's definately modular (MOLLE-style straps across it).  It also can carry plenty of other stuff as well.  Personally, I'd shy away from it just because of how far the pouches are from the body, making it a bit awkward to carry your weapon sometimes, like on a sling.  That's just personal preference.  Where did you find this, and how much is it?
