And, we're pansies about airsofting compared to the Japanese. Those guys play in bad weather, bad conditions, just about all the time. They're *insane*.

They also have "local" games that draw 300+ players.

If we could do that here, I'd be a happy man.

I can see how this can be done. RC car racers break their motors in a way called a wet break-in. They will actually submerse the motor in water and run it for around 15 minutes total at different speeds. It insures the propore seating of the bushings and brushes. I would say everything else is mechanical. As long as the battery pack is water proofed or sealed and the connectors have some sort of silicone water proof grease (the stuff they use for pool and faucet o-rings) I could see it working. I personally would not try it though.

i imagin if you were to break down your gun right after playing with it in the wet and you dried it out and re lubed it it would work okay. water seems like it would be way less detrimental to a gun compared to dirt, dust and grit would jam up your motor and chew up your internals.

If all critical parts were covered in some sort of corrosion preventative compound like grease, they'd be fine.

Another thing that might help is dessicant.  Get some large pouches of it and place them in an airtight box with your AEG after exposure.  That'll keep it dry!

Short-term submersion may not hurt it, but I've seen AEGs pitted and rusted from long term exposure to humidity.

My M4 came back from Kentucky with some rust.  Nothing internally, but some external parts, like the ejection port cover spring, flashhider, and front sight post roll pins.  No damage as far as I can tell.  This was from maybe 36 hours in a wetter climate and a few hours in a slight rain.

Precisely. If you treat it like you would any real firearm (like, say an AR15) and keep it well cleaned and such, nothing to worry about.

For those who are saying rust will form....typically in rust-prone environments (like, tropical islands like Guam, and places near the ocean like Florida....) your gun will rust no matter what.

I did tear them down, clean and re-lube after those ops. But then again, the first 3 days after a decent op I spend cleaning all my equipment to make sure I am ready to go at a moment's notice. No matter what environment I am in, I always make sure my guns are clean (both airsoft and real). A dirty gun is an unhappy gun, and will do nothing but give you grief.

Each year I fly out to Florida to see my old military school buddies and we all go up to georgia to his 250 miles of land... well one day we went to this flea market and bought some REALLY crappy AEGs so we took the guns home got in the golf kart with our gear and everything and went under water for like 2 minutes whene we poped back up we fired the guns and they actually worked we threw mud in the barrel and still fireing then the topper we packed mud in the piston and in the mag and she still fired i was amazed!

This is a good example of how spelling comes in handy. Also try to slow down a bit and use sentences : )

yea i have a TM AK47 that has been fully summerged several times up at Bushnell Tanks, and has been through a great amount of Rain, and a Flash Flood, and not a single problem occured from the gun. my friends TM AK47 Beta was sitting in a pool of water once and shot fine, despite how old it was and had no internal changes to it ever. but both our stock AK's survived being fully summerged several times and no problems. mine too has had mud in the barrel....deep in the barrel and all and it again worked fine as well.
