I used a single shot bolt action sniper rifle for so long the thought of high caps is offensive.

Hello All, I would like to weigh in on this subject.

Let me start by stating that I am new to AA and make no presumption of telling you guys how it should be run.  I just have some thoughts and ideas.  Thats not a bad thing is it?  Often a bad idea could inspire another to come up with a good one.

Now, in the poll I voted No Hi-Caps, yet if this became policy I would not be able to play in games for a very long time.  It is the Milsim aspect of AA that appeals to me.  But lets face it, Milsim can be expensive.  Every piece of gear I get puts me closer to Milsim.  My next purchase will be boots.  Next was gonna be a car charger but I may get Desert BDUs instead.

But I digress.., My point is this.  How many new players that join will be equipted with Milsim gear, i.e. Standard mags only?  I read on these forums that new players must be welcomed in order to help this sport grow.

Yet on the other side of the coin.  If one has spent all the coin on gear and learned to play well with said gear, yet dies to a Noob with a Hi-cap(Like me) simply because the Noob can Spray with no concern for reloading.  Well that just plain SUCKS!  

So....., what are the options?  Make the rules more strict and perhaps lose newcomers vital to the growth of AA?  Or, Leave things as they are and force the Elite to suffer?

Consider this.....,  Group players into forces according to thier gear.  Make the rules different for different forces(or whatever).

Maybe something like this;

GREEN
REGULAR
VETERAN
ELITE

GREEN(or call them partisans, militia etc.).   Required gear: Goggles and an Airsoft gun.  Other than that anything goes.  Jeans, T-shirts, sneakers,Frenchmaid outfits whatever.  Obviously you would want to get return players out of this group.

REGULAR(National Guard, Reserves, etc.).  Required gear: As above plus BDUs and Boots

VETERAN(GI, Regular Army, or whatever).  Required gear: As above except maybe only 1 Hi-cap, plus radio.

ELITE(S.E.A.L.s, Special Forces, etc.).  Required gear: As above except no Hi-caps and maybe only carry as many rounds as a person could maybe x3.   Milsim...., How much does 500 rounds of 5.56mm ammo really weigh?

That said just tweak the rules.  GREEN 1 hit and your out, REGULAR 2 hits etc.  Respawns GREEN forces get none ELITE get 3!  At game start ELITE forces can deploy 5 mins before all others.  Stuff like that.

Confusing...,Perhaps but if I'm a REGULAR I'm gonna know what my rules are.  It is a game of honor right?

Seems to me that something like this would be all inclusive, yet encourage all to strive towards a more pure Milsim aspect.

There it is.  Think it over.  Pick it apart.  I am sure that there are at least 369 million things that I have not even thought about.

In closing I would like to say that I would rather not play than be the cause of someone having a less fun time.(and I want to play!)

^ that is a great idea. it would encourage people to get involved and to get further into the hobby and to get better stuff.

As a Guardsman, this is laughable.  Maybe some of the other Guardsmen, who also happen to be veterans, can share their insight.  Maybe not.

New ideas are always good.  However:
-I think you are overgeneralizing the players, and overcomplicating the rules.
-As an event organizer, players are already grouped.  Any of the Mods, and any of the National OP vets have a great feel for how each other player performs.  We've been on the field, and we know everyones strengths and weaknesses.  It comes with playing.  No ammount of chatter on the internet or conversations at the parking lot can improve your understanding of your airsoft peers like simply playing the game.  
-It may be a coincidence (not likely), but the players that have the nicest gear and nicest guns are also the ones that play very well.  Now, the gear/gun does not make the player, but rather the player that has been around awhile, and been to a few national OPs knows what will work, and buys gear that will better suit his playing style.  I don't know of any OP vets that have less than $1000 in gear, equipment and guns.

Grouping players by gear and guns is not necessary.  That happens on the field once the scenarios begin and the BBs start to fly.

Am I criticizing?  Yes, kindly.  Do I think this is a bad idea?  Not necessarily, but it will not fit well with the caliber of players we have in AA.  As the National OP community (and OP organizers) already knows, the AA group of guys that go to these games are some of the most professional, disciplined, and skilled players on the field.  When you come to an AA game, you are a part of something great, and something to be proud of.

let me just start off by saying sorry for digging up an old thread, but i figured its America and my vote still counts haha.

my vote went for the standards side, but more specifically, real caps.  my whole team uses tm standard mags converted to realcaps.  everyone that says they need to use mids or hi's to even the playing field is full of it, all you need is team work.  i have an m14 and i run 12 mags- 20 rounds each.  of course i never go to full auto, the thought alone on an m14 is gross, so ammo consumption is pretty low.  

if im ever in arizona i would love to check out an aa op.  just from looking around you're site, it seems very milsim oriented, the  way it should be.

simply high-capps are too unreliable and i hate the fact that they often have feeding problems.  Standard mags are more durable,  feed better, and they obviously make games more realistic.  

Some supportors of high caps claim that they never have problems with running out of ammo and thus high-capps are better, but what i've gained from years of experiance is that you tend to get the same amount of kills using standards rather than high-capps and at the same time you use far less ammo.  

standards all the way!!!!! i don't even carry my old high capps into games anymore.

Well as for me I perfer the highcap way over the normal clip. I get what you guys are trying to say.... Unrelistic, improve skill, noobish... Whatever... Me and my friends run with the off the shelf cheap fun utg cyma double eagle shi.t.

So improving your skill is next to impossible when your gun is only 15% accurate from 20 feet away.So all we do is play iron man matches. (basically shoot till your out of ammo or can't walk) Because of this not having a high cap means getting about 40 welts from the time lost reloading or conserving ammo.

Then I bet one you is going to say, -spend some more money and get a decent gun. Well the thing is $150 is damn sure enough money to spend on this hobby for me. Most of my money and my friends' goes to offroading and necessities. Spending upwards of $300 on a fake gun is unreal to me. Hell man you can get the real version of the gun for that in most cases. (For example a AK-47 sells for $60 american in most countries a glock $400 (us), tec-9 $200.(us) ) I know its worth it to you all to spent that kind of money, but if you have a fun, cheap, unaccurate gun, go with the highcap.

WHile I support midcaps and use them almost exclusively, I have to laugh when I hear the classic "milsim" argument.

If you want to milsim it then get all geared up and sit at the field for 48 hours in a hole you dug yourself and then right before everyone arrives go home and clean/ inventory your gear.  That's a milsim for you.   8)

Milsim is about as overused a term as sniper (ughghhh no such thing in airsoft, different debate) and tactical (everything from toothbrushes to xmas lights are tactical nowadays).
