I've been toying with the idea of using model rocket engine (they are cheap) for a claymore, you can fill the top half with bb's (top half usually fires the streamer or parachure).  They are safe,  cheap 99% sure they won't start a fire.  You can use a 9V battery to set the off remote, or a NC switch with a trip wire to set them off.  Only problem is that when you set it off, there is a small delay 1-3 seconds till it goes off, and it has to be anchored well, or you could dig out the propellant.

Anyways, just a thought.

Andy, I'm living proof you can start a brush fire with a model rocket. I almost took out a LDS church once with one of my creations.

As for water, why not? It dries, y'know. The good old waterballoon slingshot is a lot of fun, and isn't all THAT inaccurate when in the right hands.. I almost got hit in the balls at about 100 feet, and he was aiming, too.

Come on, you MIL-SIMmers, get a little wet and dirty!

At one big op in Cali a few years back they used water balloon launchers as motors launching water filled balloons at the other team.  Mind you the balloons were not huge and filled only about half way with water.  No one at that game really minded all that much, but the game was in the middle of August so it was actually nice to get sprayed with a little water.

The best balloon size for launching is about the size of a fist. They tend to have a strike radius of maybe five feet.

You know, i'm starting to get ideas on making a safe, non-pyrotechnic type of RPG device.  I was thinking of using pressurized water as the rocket's propellant, but as for the actual blast, and the method in which the BB's (which will most likely be in a small enclosure, under pressure as a propellant) will blast... i can't come up with anything.  Any suggestions?  I was thinking of making a bazooka type weapon which will fire the "RPG's."  When i come up with something, i'll let you guys know.... Some PVC piping and craftsmanship... as well as some paint, will most likely be the material used.  And if i CAN'T use, or make something of that sort, just let me know.

This thread has inspired me to design such a device.

Ever seen a pressurized water rocket, S.D?  There was a edition of Mythbusters that had some really high-powered stuff.

I don't see why it can't be done.. Just keep the projectile soft enough not to hurt anyone.

Best of luck with it!

Of course... i don't want to hurt anyone!

If i do successfully create one, it's not like it will be high powered, and meant to aim directly at the enemy.  Shooting it somewhere within a reasonable area will be the objective.   However, making the projectile "burst" (not as a whole, so i can reuse the rocket) is my concern.  I would have to come up with an idea of how to effectivly create a greande-like device which "explodes" on contact, sending a ball of, oh, anywhere from 100 to 200 bb's within a 5-15 foot radius.  As i said, any ideas would be appreciated.  I just need a way to make the "explosion" without causing any harm just in case it hits right next to someone.... or even hits that person...
And if full contact WERE to happen, i would not like for the projectile to severely hurt someone.... just as long as they feel it... that is my goal....

How about the old dry ice in water in a 2 liter bottle (whatever a LITER is........

Doubt anyone would be "taken out " by one of them, but that really loud boom would be real warlike!

1,000 Millilitres, but anyway ...

We did that a few times, back when I first started organizing games.  Works fine, as long as it's done far enough away from players.  A friend of mine was damn near taken off Flight Status due to shrapnel taken from a 3L bottle Dry-Ice bomb.  Really, it wasn't my fault. :P

bad idea - rockets get some pretty hot gas out the back that would DEFINITELY start a fire - dont ask how I know.

Anyway, if you were going to use that method for bb deployment, why not just use a rocket ignitor in a small cap of black powder? its the same exact thing (high powered rockets use about  2 grams of black powder to eject the nose cone and parachute).

My bet is that hearing 'black powder' and 'bb' in the same sentance gives images of white pellets stuck deep under the skin, eyeballs hanging out of faces, and copious amounts of blood gushing where it shouldn't... And is also probably close to correct - haha.

pressurized gas of some sort would probably be the best way to go, or chemical (non-pyro) gas pressurization... but anything that needs heat/flame is either a fire hazard, or going to have enough power to create a short-range shotgun effect ;)

Co2 cartridges seem to be the way to go. I saw a gizmo called a "Master Blaster" that worked pretty well. Available from paintball shops, I found

-This particular one is what I've seen. Subsitute water and/or .BB's for the paint.. It isn't exactly a "Home Depot" sourced item, better to just buy one from the dealer.

It shoots a wall of projectiles maybe 20 feet.

C, a while back (a few years) you packed BB's in those little party poppers, which we tied fishing wire fairly tight to, and booby trapped a whole area. Those worked pretty damn well.

We actually did that at the last game, killed a few people but folks caught on pretty quick.
