That was a great series.  I regret only having watching about 4 episodes.  From what I remember I thought it was pretty realistic, but does anyone who has been overseas have input?  I'd be interested to know how accurate the writers/producers really were.

That show fucking sucked.

But, it was better than that shit they call "The Unit."

Stick with the Military Channel, that way if it blows, you still learn something.

Disclaimer:  I have not yet been deployed, so any opinion is based upon entertainment value and the little I know about the Army.

But, again:

That show fucking sucked.

When was anything you ever saw on tv "realistic"?  Even the History/Discovery/Etc. channel take their own licenses with things.

"The Unit" really sucks...I'm reading "Inside Delta Force" right now (written by Eric Haney, the show's tech advisior) one word...Zzzzzzzzzzz

That book is an outstanding read.  Read Col. Beckwith's take, then tell me Haney puts you to sleep!

I saw one episode of the show, and decided it isn't going to be on my "must-see" list.  I have yet to see one single military-based fictional TV show in the past 10 years that can hold my attention for an entire season.  JAG was ok, because it wasn't full of BS, and it had Catherine Bell.

Hogan's Heroes was fucking legit.  We need more sh*t like that on TV!

To be fair, I've only read around 50 pages of it (basically the selection process for Delta) but so far it's a slow go.  I lot of "Have a good 'un" and the unorthodox training/nonstandard operating procedure.

When I finish it, I'll give a more in-depth review...sorry if anyone thinks I'm prejudging it.  I hope it gets better...

There's not much action in the book.

Invest quality time into it, and you will not regret it.

"Have a good 'un" was pretty good.

As is the parts about the bowling alley beer and the guy jumping out of the EC-130 into the sand at Desert One.

I would suggest "Rogue Warrior" or "Red Cell" by Richard Marcinko.

Some people say his books are BS, but I happen to think they are a pretty good read.

I read most of Inside Delta Force, only got another 60 pages left, I should finish that...  Great read thus far, a bit boring at parts but others get you thinking different perspectives on certain situations.

Andy McNabb has some pretty good stuff.
He is doing some fiction now, but also has two biography books.
1 covering his life and the other just his mission in Iraq.
Bravo Two Zero is about his SAS team attempting to get out of Iraq after being discovered.

Both Andy McNabb and Dick Marcinko have been recognized for their "fictitious" novels.  High action, yes.

For the reader without ADHD, non-fiction works from Eric Haney, Charlie Beckwith, Mike Durant, and Robin Moore are the way to go.

Matt, everyone knows that bowling alleys have the best beer!  "One problem at a time."
