Simple Sling
« on: March 30, 2006, 03:40:58 PM »
Where do you guys get the basic sling that attaches to the M4 retractable stock, and just goes around your shooting arm, or attaches to a vest?

Do you make these? What do you guys feel works better for you?

There are about 10 slings that match this profile, Matt.

I like single point slings, but they DO swing a bit when moving with your pistol.

2-points are the best, because they keep the rifle close, but aren't overly complex like 3-pointers.

3 pointers were designed to allow smooth transition, but I've found them to be nothing but cumbersome for our application.

A nice, well-adjusted 2-pointer is your best bet.  Slings are one of those items that really relies on your personal preference, and so the only way to find one that works for you is to try different types.

There are also a few types of kit-mounted solutions, but I'll let Raith, et al, step up for that one.

Which one are you talking about. I have made several, who did you see with one? I personally prefer a single point or no sling at all, but I have been rolling with this low profile sling raith and I came up with. Check out the gear making thread and see what the latest styles are.

if you want the simplest of slings - go buy a 20" length of para cord and make two coils about 6" circumference. loop it around the beginning of the stock and through itself so it's cinched around the stock. add 1 carabiner of your preferred size and color and attach to D-ring on tac vest. voila! a 3$ sling. gravity keeps it from uncinching.

my 2 cents on a 3$ sling lol

I find Whacker's type sling works best for me. I use a real climbing oval 'biner and attach it to my chest rig's D ring on the shoulder.

I used to run that setup at local games.  I did the same at LC4, and I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!

It absolutely kills your shoulder.

The best slings are the ones that distribute the weight symmetrically.  Something like the Ganef/Raith sling is best for long-term wear.

I have the frankensling - available from practical tactical - http://www.practicaltactical.net/-strse ... gories.bok

cash = 25$ -

pros: can carry any type of rifle, quick release setup if you are sinking in a lake. distributes weight semi evenly good for MOUT/CQC
cons: strap is way too friggin thick and it cuts into my neck.
can be annoying at times to situate.

Pointless posts, and even more pointless posts...you're an idiot already.

EDIT: Fine I'll set the example and put something constructive in it.

Hey, why don't you head over to the "Introduce yourself" section and tell who you really are instead of making an idiot of yourself just to get rid of that "forum newb" sign, ok?

Matt,

I bought my 1-point here:

http://madsterz.com/productmad.php?modelno=160BL

I actually went to the dude and explained what I wanted and he came out with this design.  I like it because of its quick release buckle for when I go prone.  I also bought a sling I use on my real steel here.  Great guy and good workmanship.  Pretty cheap too...
