I was browsing depot53.com and saw that there was a new version of the ICS M16A3 AEG.
M16-A3 2006 Version ICSToday the M16 is recognized as one of the world’s most reliable assault rifles. The A3 variant reflects the latest ISC modifications to the weapon. The 'New' A3 features a Turbo 3000 motor, steel bushings, redesigned gears, 16 gauge silicone wires and new version split gearbox that delivers 325 fps out of the box.
Manufactured from high precision cast and machined aluminum gives the ICS M16-A3 the correct weight and balance. The ICS M16 AEG series also has a unique drilled outer barrel that’s materially strong, precision mated to the reinforced aluminum receiver. This eliminates the common barrel wobbling problem known to all other makes of M16, or M4 series AEG's. This design also makes it easy to update the barrel and foregrip to the soon to be released ICS M16-A3 Carbine configuration. Pushing the Forward Assist releases the spring tension before storage, to maintain maximum spring tension.
If field skirmishing is what you're into, this is the assault weapon of choice.
All of that sounds nice and all, in theory I should just be able to slide in an upper gearbox with Systema parts and a M120 spring and get close to 400fps.
But I'm a bit wary because this whole split gearbox design feature has posed some problems with the first generation of ICS M16s. Upgrading those are really hit or miss, but I'm hoping that this newer generation has solved those problems. If not then I will most likely go for a Classic Army M16A4 instead.
