What should I get next?
« on: April 12, 2006, 04:22:31 PM »
I just bought a new SRC M4. It's a version with a crane stock and rail system.
What I was wondering was what in order should be immedietly delt with. This is my first automatic electric gun and I know that I am probably going to get some more things. Please help me out, all I'm planning to do right now is this:

M-120, metal bushing
Metal Receiver
Sling
Mags
Extra batterys
Ergo grip
M203

I can't really get all these things at the same time, since I have no solid source of income. I just have to save up money and then pretty much get one at a time. Which things should I get to first? If there's anything I should add, tell me about it. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I'd get more mags, a sling and batteries first.  Then the Metal receiver, then start working on internals.  Learn how to play with a stock gun first, then move on.  Ergo grips and 203's are nice, but will not affect the overall performance, and aren't as nessecary as magazines and batteries are.

Another problem is that I don't have anything to hold mags (Other than my Cammys pockets, which enevitable fail, because mags fly out when running)

Then I would suggest getting some gear. If you cant afford much get a TAC vest from JT or their new one. I guess you must need camo and eye protection too.

No, I actually have a full set of Digi Cams, Gortex boots, and goggles that I love. My brother was in the Marines so I got lucky. I was thinking about a Load Bearing Vest. Would you guys suggest that over a normal vest?

Are the goggles military dust goggles?

If so, I'd be careful with them. They aren't rated.

I put the two lenses of glass on there, but they are fine. If they can take an Iraqi dust storm, which has things bigger than 6mm flying at much faster than 400 FPS, I'm pretty sure I'll be all right.

Glass lenses? That's an even worse idea, man.

Your mentality and rationale are wrong, but enjoy limited depth perception, blindness or worse.

Also, do you know how fast 400 feet per second is?

That's 270 (two hundred and seventy) MILES per hour. The eyesight you got now is the only eyesight you've got for the rest of your life. Take care of it. I don't want something bad to happen to you, man. Get a cheap pair of goggles from Jungletoy, or a mesh mask, or a paintball mask. They're all less than thirty dollars and will provide adequate protection from the velocities we're talking about.

Yeah. Get some gear man. Check out the "accesories and gear" forum for that type of stuff. You'll find pretty much everything ever invented for airsoft if you do a search on these forums.

No you fool, plastic. I'm not an idiot, this thread isn't about my goggles. If you read my entire post, you would understand that my info came off a Marine. They work perfectly. I don't mean to make any bad relations, and to not start any kind of argument. Thankyou for caring about my eyes, though. ;)

I beg to differ.  I know of few items larger than 6mm in a dust storm that will travel at more than 400 fps (272 miles per hour, for comparison purposes).  If Vince says those goggles aren't rated, I would take his word for it.  The last thing you want is to get a BB + shattered glass in your eyes while trying to have some fun out in the field.  Besides, most googles/glasses are pretty cheap, so just grab a new pair.

EDIT: Haha, triple post, and I lost.  When I opened the post, I was first but I guess I took too much time converting FPS to MPH.   [smilie=armata_pdt_06.gif]

It's pretty simple. Just do some research and see if they are rated for high impact or not.

Actually, you did say glass.  So if you had read your own entire post, you would understand.

No, they can't.  Military issue Sun, Dust, and Wind Goggles (SWDG) are not ANSI Z87.1 approved.  They do not protect from bb hits reliably.  They were made to do just what there name implies - protect your eyes from the sun, wind, and dust.  Iraqi dust storms do not reach the speed of .25g bbs.  If they did, you would have many more things to worry about than just your vision.
