6.04mm or 6.03mm tightbore?
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:03:07 PM »
I was going to put a tightbore barrel in my AK.  I submitted not one, but two orders at WGCShop.com, and havn't got a reply yet (for payment and shipping).  I found some more barrel at UNCompany.com, but were a little more expensive.  For $52 (+S&H), i can get either a KM 6.04mm, or a Prometheus 6.03mm barrel.  Which should i get?  Thanks...

Well, if its the same price, go with the Prometheus 6.03. Also, what kind of metal are they made out of?

Don't the 6.03 barrels tend to have jamming problems more on full auto? I don't know if it's happened to you, but it sucks when your gun jams in the middle of a firefight.

Well, I have yet to have a single jam with my AK. Though, it has a KM 6.04. I believe Spazz uses 6.03s on his guns, and I have never seen him jam.

so long as the bb's are good, why would it jam? cheap bb's with dia's that get larger than 6mm would jam, but decent ones shouldn't.

The 6.03, in my experience, does not have a problem with jamming. It is, however, high-maintenance. Whereas with a regular barrel it is suggested that you clean your barrel after every game, with a 6.03 you MUST clean your barrel after every game, and sometimes in the middle of a game (if it's the longer kind of game).

For myself I like the BS systema 6.04 your gun might start shooting hot if you go to a 6.03 depending on your current fps.

I had a 6.03 in my M4, never had a problem.  Just use high grade bb's and you'll never have a problem.

Ok, cool.  Thanks a lot guys.  I'm gonna go with the 6.03mm Prometheus, and shoot just .25 High Grade BBs.  I should be good with that.  I'll also have to get into the cleaning habit.  8)

I got 6.03 Prometheus's for both my M15, and G36, and was concerned with Jamming.  Ron at JT told me that the Excel BB's are manufactured with a slightly smaller diameter and recomended that I use them.  Sounded like good advice but have yet to test it in the field.

I use a Prometheus 6.03 in my CA M4.  Only had 2 jams in 2 yrs of constant use and 3 Ops.  I use Excel or Infinity High Grade bb's.  I also never have to clean the barrel after every game, Infact I rarely have the chance now that I broke my cleaning rod.  So far I have played 5 games consecutively with no cleaning and no problems.  Just don't use your barrel as a shovel and you should be ok  ;)  Differences between a 6.04 and 6.03??? I have never owned a 6.04 but from what I hear the difference is negligible. But what does usually differ is the price, but as I have seen lately the 6.04mm's have raised in price to meet with the 6.03's at about $50.

A little bit; maybe 10-15fps. The bigger thing you should look for is an improvement in accuracy.

Yes. Why you ask? Becuase the smaller bore of the barrel puts a tighter seal of air around the BB, thus increasing how much air forces the BB foward.

In reguards to what Phryst said:

I'm not saying your wrong, but using a slightly "smaller" BB would negate the use of a tightbore barrel, wouldn't it? I mean, you are using a smaller bore barrel to decrease the amount of movement the BB has while it travels down the barrel. If you use a "smaller" BB it is going to do the same thing, than using a "normal" size BB would do with a standard barrel.

I would ask because I diddn't know...and I wanted to make sure that that it wouldn't increase me velocity to much as I'm borderline 380-400.
